Guest guest
Hi everybody. I've been on this list for a long time, but I am just going to see Dr. S in Chattanooga for the first time Tuesday and getting ready to begin my journey to health on antibiotics. I was wondering if you guys could help me think of anything I need to ask the doctor or anything I should know before starting AP. A few questions I have in mind to ask are: 1) Will insurance pay for the antibiotics? 2) What supplements, if any, should I take along with the abx? 3) Should I use vitamin C? If so, how much? I also have a question for the ladies of the group. Since I've heard antibiotics can effect how well birth control pills work, what do you use? Are IUD's safe? Thanks for any help or advice you can offer! Beth

Guest guest
Hi Everybody! This is Dolores & Mike. We are totally elated. As you all know that after living in NYC for twelve + years, we made a move to Texas for a job offer. We were there barely 6 months when we got wind that my 96 yr. old mother in Florida was in second stage Alzheimers. So, we quit the job, put all our furniture in storage and drove the RV to St. sburg Fl.The following two months were a nightmare. The doc said she could no longer live alone. She wouldn't go to a nursing home. Mike and I were staying in the RV while we tried to sort out a solution to the dilemma. Well, we decided to land in Pensacola and all move in together. It is warmer than NY and cooler than St. sburg which we both like. I was originally seeking to move to a warmer climate due to the increase strain in winter on my lungs in the cold of NYC> I have pulmonary fibrosis from Scleroderma damage and breathing in cold air hurts. With each of these moves I have been seeking a doc. None that I met would help me with AP. One D.O.gave me scripts reluctantly. For the past two month I have been on a " search for the right doc hunt. " Well, today I found him. Yippeeeee! A Rheumatologist I went to see today, heard me out about A/P and said he could not treat me with A/P but since I am so convinced in the Infectious theory and in the antibiotic protocol, he gave me an instant referral to see the Infectious doc in the same building of the hospital upstairs. I thought I was going up to make an appointment. Well, they took me in right away. The doc was fabulous. We spoke about Micoplasmas and A/P and I told him my story. He said, you know I am not a Rheumatologist and I said, " I don't need a Rheumatologist. " I have a Th1 disease. I have a major infection and I need antibiotics. A huge smile came over his face and I became his patient. I am insisting that I finish up with the Marshall and then if need be we will be trying different antibiotics. We discussed doxy and several other options. I said later I will try, but only one protocol at a time. He took a copy of the protocol, ordered my blood work, wants all my history and I see him again in two weeks. It is only today, that I finally discovered, I have been chasing my tail looking for an A/P rheumatologist when all I ever needed was an " Infectious Disease Specialist. Why didn't I think of that myself? I feel so dumb! Now I can get all the antibiotics I need without an argument or have to justify and teach. I feel so relieved. Will keep all of you in touch as we go along. I feel like a huge weight has been removed from my back. When you have an infection, go to an " Infectious Disease Specialist! " Of course! I got my Christmas present early. I now have a doc I can trust again. At last I am home. His name is Dr. Penico. My best to all of you and my greatest wish is that you all feel as great as we do today with this discovery. Guest guest
Hello again Brennan. You asked if others know about the Marshall. I'm sure many do. Trevor Marshall began with this protocol because he had Sarcoidosis. I believe most of his patients on the protocol have other Rheumatic diseases. I have Scleroderma and decided to try in spite of the fact that I don't believe the majority of people on it have scleroderma. It is mostly for Sarcoidosis. The only way to find out if anyone has heard about the Marshall Protocol is to ask. Has anyone out there ever heard of the Marshall Protocol and what's good about it and what is bad about it? So, Brennan! All we have to do is sit back and read the answers. I'm sure you will find many pros and cons. I hope it will be interesting. Guest guest
Hi dolores. Just read your response I'm sorry if there was a misunderstanding. All of the information I read off the board I take in an process I just thought I was missing maybe a piece of the puzzle when u mentioned doxy. I certainly have your health an others on the board respected as I have taken on an inflamatory disease myself. If you have started the mp have u had a bad herx? Do u kno others who r on the mp ? How did they respond? Thank u. Guest guest
Hi Brennan, Hope you had a great Thanksgiving. Please take no offense. I just wanted to clear that up so others wouldn't get confused. It is difficult when reading so many posts at once to miss something or add something. I have Scleroderma and for some reason, I have never really had any bad herxes. Sometimes I feel better and sometimes I feel worse. You know, I have good and bad days. Sometimes I feel like superwoman and can do everything and then I get overwhelmingly tired and then I have to cool any strenuous activity. Usually an hour's nap will renew my energy. I can't really pinpoint herxes as such. Some people can, but I think Scleroderma people may not herx as much as others with different diseases. Whatever happens, I just keep on going with the protocol and trust that I am doing the right thing. I know that I don't have the same symptoms I used to. Most go away eventually and then new symptoms crop up. I just figure it is the mycoplasma attacking another part of my body and the antibiotics chase them. I sometimes feel like a giant game of pac-man is going on inside of me. No, can't say that I am aware of herxing. Could be that I am in denial. Who knows! The best to you, Dolores & Mike From: vinnylid <vinnylid (DOT) com> Subject: rheumatic Re: Questions from first time AP user rheumatic@grou ps.com Date: Monday, November 24, 2008, 8:37 AM > > Hi everybody. Guest guest
Hello Dolores and Mike, Dolores I am so happy for you that you have found the doctor you need. I may in the near future also think about an infectious disease doctor in Houston. Burl and I are spending Thanksgiving in Las Vegas with my son. Having fun and doing a lot of relaxing. Stay well, give Mike a huge from the both of us.
