Guest guest
, in what area do you live. The question is: so that people on this site can help you with a antibiotic protocol doctor or a doctor that is willing to work with you and antibiotics. Eva From: claudiaysanchez <claudiaysanchez@...> Subject: rheumatic Knee Surgery? rheumatic Date: Thursday, November 20, 2008, 1:40 PM Hello all: I am new to the group, having just found it in my quest to help my mother, who was diagnosed with polymyositis back in 2000. After having her go through all conventional drugs (prednisone, methyltrexate, imuran) to no avail, she is ready to branch out, and I was fortunate to stumble upon the rheumatic.org website, and learn about antibiotic treatment. We're now in the process of finding more info, and trying to get her in front of a Dr. who will be willing to administer the treatment. At any rate, my question is this: is there anyone out there who has experience with a knee replacement at the same time as undergoing the antibiotic treatment? Along with the polymyositis (or maybe because of it?) my mom has developed severe arthritis in her right knee, is bone on bone, and can barely walk because of that pain (in addition to the extreme muscle weakness). Her Dr. is saying surgery is the only option for the arthritis pain, and we are wondering whether to proceed with surgery at the same time as we begin to consider antibiotic treatment for the polymyositis. Any insight or advice is welcome. And thank you so much for providing this forum -- it really means so much to us.

Guest guest
we are in San Francisco, California. Dr. Franco has been recommended down in Riverside to us, and we are looking into that. I was just wondering if anyone had any particular experience with surgery while receiving antibiotic treatment. Specifically, we are curious whether the antibiotic treatment has made it harder for people to have surgery (e.g., maybe they have had a harder time recovering, etc.). We're just trying to understand how the treatment would work for my mom as a whole... Guest guest
Hi, And welcome to the site. I know your Mom must be in agony and would like to go for the surgery as fast as she can--------There are some questions I want to raise to avoid complications. First, take into consideration her age and state of health at this moment. Then figure how long she has been on Immune suppressants. One of the effects of having surgery while on or just going off the Prednisone and other toxic drugs can leave one open to infection. If she could stay off her knee for a matter of months while she weans off the suppresant drugs, the surgery would be safer. If she has already completed the weaning process, then talk with Dr. Franco or any other AP doctor and then decide when the surgery should take place. Any opening into the skin and tissue could be a gateway for bacteria to enter and cause havoc. Better to wait and be safe than to rush into something that may take forever to heal or battle a persistent infection. Good luck to you and your .Remember, the Immune cells need to be in good working order to fight off infection.Without them surgery is chancy. If any thing. The antibiotics would protect your mom from further infection. Take care, Let us know how everything goes. Guest guest
, Antibiotics are often prescribed with surgery to avoid possible infections, so they must be OK with surgery.
