Yeah, that's what I thought at first too but this happens frequently. She probably has the lip swelling at least two to three times a month. We have watched for foods or allergens that might cause this and nothing points to an allergy. Usually the benadryl does nothing for the symptoms either. I just found it odd that the swelling started last night and then she woke up this morning and had the rash. One of the other poster's posted something about the lip swelling being related to hypothyroid a month of so ago. I'm searching for the thread...I thought I put it in my thyroid files....hopefully I'll find it. Who knows, I just thought I'd ask and see. Thanks Val.

CIndy,I have five sisters with hypoT, a grandmother that had it but my mother was never diagnosed. She died in 1980 at the age of 54. As I have gotten older and somewhat smarter about thyroid issues, I look back and see that my mother most likely had hypothyroidism. One of the things that happened to her at the time was her bottom lip swelling enormously. I have mentioned to my sisters that I wondered if this was a symptom on top of all the other symptoms I now realize she had. Just thought you might find this interesting....I will never know for sure but I have an inkling.Venizia

Hi Venezia,

Yes I bet you are so right in your thinking. I finally found some information regarding the rash and it can be associated with auto-immune disease, thyroid disorders/Hashi's. So with my daughter showing positive for Hashi's at present I suppose this is what is happening. She has had the lip swelling off and on for several months now but the rash was new. My family is loaded with thyroid problems as well and not until I became ill did I know just how many were affected. It's mostly on my father's side although my Mom and Brother are hyporthyroid as well. I bet with your strong family history your Mother did have thyroid problems. Such a shame that this is such a neglected disease when there are answers. I'm so glad that I found Val...at least she has the answers.

Later,

Oh, sorry to hear that you are having some issues. I know that you will get them worked out. I'm STILL working on it...in a couple of months it will be a year since I found Val's group. I thank God that I did find her. I'm not there yet but sooo much better than I have been in years. My feel my succes story will be coming soon. The /adrenals/cortisol can be so tricky with the thyroid. It is such a balancing act. I think things are getting in line for me but then I'm afraid to get the least bit stressed for fear of my adrenals, but who can control stress?? LOL, it's crazy!
