Guest guest
No, its not me! A co-worker that is vegan but very active and likes to work out but quite slender has decided that she wants more muscle and protein. I've gotten the reputation as the nutrition guy at work so she was asking me about protein. Being a vegan she is very health conscious and opposed to processing. So I recommended stopping the soy milks in favor of nut milks and to limit herself to fermetted soy products. That's the easy part. She is starting to feel that she needs some more protein and has forced herself to have organic yogurt from time to time or egg whites, but it kind of grosses her out. She does seem willing to include small amounts of animal foods - what animal foods are most palatable for someone that isn't used to eating them? Finally, as us WAPers know, the real benefit of animal foods is not the protein, but the fat. I think a teaspoon of cod liver oil might be a good supplement. Any other ideas? Earlier I was speculating that coconut oil is a good fat, but would it be food for someone trying to gain weight even if its muscle weight? Guest guest
Thank god its not you! ; ) , For a vegan coconut oil is a no brainer as it will provide her with some of the sat fat that her body is dying for and as it is from a coconut she will likely be willing to use it with much less reservation. Eggs are great and if she's willing raw milk (sorry:-) or if that's too difficult to secure have her get the organic full fat non homo stuff and make kefir from it. The veggies who are " near vegan " usually will get the fermented idea pretty easily and kefir is pathetically easy to make and eat and if she does add it she'll likely notice benefits right away.
