Cheryl,

Did you lose weight before surgery or were you operated on at 384? I too am

above the 350 limit and I would like to discuss your surgery and progress

with you if you are willing.

Thanks,

NV

NV,

Yes, I lost weight before surgery. I weighed 384 and lost 30 lbs and had

surgery at 354. I tried to talk about doing it when I was above the 354

weight but the Dr doesn't feel it is safe and he really cares about the

surgery outcome. The instruments aren't as functional if you are above a

certain size. IE. its more difficult to operate.

I am glad I did it. I struggled with it but I am a better person today

b/c of the efforts it took to make surgery possible for me.

I would be happy to talk further with you if you like. Get my phone

number from the website and call me anytime between 7pm and 10pm

weekdays. Other times by chance you'll catch me home. Email me

personally also, if you prefer that method.

Hi everyone,

I have to make this quick as my most comfortable position is flat on my

back in my bed. For anyone who has had a surgical procedure on their pancreas

I have new found sympathy for you!!! I'm not really that sore but without an

appetite and feeling nauseous it all adds up to being very uncomfortable.

The procedure went OK. Then the surgeon told me that the gall bladder

didn't look bad. So, he tells me, only time will tell if taking it out will

help me. :( Then I was really feeling OK, drinking etc...until I had to go

to the bathroom. I had to go so bad but I just couldn't go!! I had to be

straight cath'd because the surgical resident couldn't make up her mind about

what to do. Then they said I had to stay over night. I ended up with a foley

catheter by midnight. They took the catheter out at 10:00 but by 1:30 I still

couldn't go. I had to be cath'd again. What an ordeal. I was finally able to

go at 4:00 but they made me stay to make sure I didn't end up back in the

emergency room. I didn't argue.

So, that was my fun and excitement. I am just sore. Hurts to cough or

sneeze. As I said, I really feel for you guys who had a real incision on your

abd.

I am still catching up on the posts but I hope everyone is doing well

or at least better...

Take care!!!

Dear ,

Looking back, no way was it as awful as I thought. I'm still not so

sure what I was afraid of though. I think it is the fact that when you have

surgery you aren't in control. Just as said in her post, when you sign

the consent you sign for a lap chole BUT...they MIGHT do this and they MIGHT

have to do. And you'll never know until you wake up. I think that is what

made me so nervous.

I was sorry to see that you're not doing any better with the diet. I

can only imagine how frustrated you must be. I am hoping that someone will

have the answers for you!! Take care and keep me posted.

Hi ,

I am so glad it is over---------I truly hope it takes care of the

pain............was it as bad as you thought? I mean, the catheter

ordeal couldn't have been much fun, but did you find it worse than

you imagined, or no? Anyway, my dear, I am glad you are back to

posting. Rest and get better!

Be well,

I'm glad everything

went ok for the most part. Are you doing beter today?

Dear Becky,

I feel somewhat better each day. I keep having short episodes of

nausea that I hope are going to go away. I am also having the same pain I had

before the surgery. In fact, I'd almost say it is worse now. I can't believe

that this is happening. I had hoped to find the answers and instead things

may just be worse. I'm not ready to throw in the towel. Maybe I just need

more time to heal after the surgery. I still have my fingers crossed.

Thank you for asking about me! I am glad to hear that you have found

someone that is taking all your symptoms into account and trying to figure

things out. It is so nice to hear that after all the stories of MD's just

blowing things off and saying " you shouldn't be having pain, we fixed your

problem. "

Take care of yourself and enjoy your time away!!

Jill! I've been worried about you. Glad to see you made it back to

us. I wonder if you could make it to see someone at Mayo in

ville, FL since it's so much closer than going all the way up to

Rochester, MN. I found this name:

Dr. Cheshire

Mayo Clinic ville

Department of Neurology

4500 San Pablo Road

ville, FL 32224

Phone:

Specialty: Shy-Drager Syndrome, Orthostatic

Intolerance

http://www.mayo.edu/mcj/MCJhome.html

Perhaps someone else on the list has been to see him and can tell you

what he's like.

Good luck!

Pam
