Guest guest
I know that B12 in addition to ferritin, adrenals, etc. were things I needed to test in order to not run in to trouble upon upping T3. So, what can I expect to encounter, with this B-12 result, as I up my T3? And do you know of any good online resources to read more on the ideal level? Thanks, Val - Alixe > > Well your B12 is oto low I have read it shoudlbe 900+ but never > researched it to really knwo. > > -- > Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV > > http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ > http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/ > http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/RT3_T3/ > http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HypoPets/ >
Guest guest
Hi Alixe, What you can do right now is to start supplementing with a good methylcobalamine supplement - which is the best form of the stuff to take. Jarrow makes a great one, it's sublingual. Pam
Guest guest
Actually BEFORE taking any B12 I would strongly suggest testing Parietal Cell Abs,Intrinsic Factor Abs, Urinary MMA, Homocysteine, RBC Folate, CBC & ESR. I'm certain the folks on the forum you linked to will tell you the same thing. In fact the Author of the book " Could it be B12? " used to regularly post on there. Not sure if she still does. I think you need B12 injections with that level. You also need to establish WHY levels are so low. As well as investigating possible Pernicious Anemia, Coeliac should be ruled out too. When you start B12 make sure you also take active Folate NOT Folic Acid. What you need is Folinic Acid and/or 5-MTHF (5-Methyltetrahydrofolate). I get both from iHerb Thorne Research Folacal & 5-MTHF. Guest guest
Hi All: Regarding b12, for me it has to be sublingual or I don't absorb it at all. I might as well throw the b12 pills in the garbage as swallow them, for all the good they'd do me. I HAVE to dissolve them under my tongue to get the benefit of them. Just my two cents on the best way to get those pesky b12 levels up. > > Hi Alixe, > > What you can do right now is to start supplementing with a good methylcobalamine supplement - which is the best form of the stuff to take. Guest guest
Actually very little of any B12 swallowed tab gets absorbed irrespective of whether the B12 is a good form or not. And irrespective of whether you have good stomach acid, digestion or health. Sublingual B12 is much better absorbed by everyone. Guest guest
Thanks much, Lee. From what I was reading on the B12 group - I had seen the postings from that author in 2007 (early postings), who had suggested getting MMA and homocysteine tested BEFORE starting on B12, so I planned to wait to start B12 in order to figure out if I needed other tests first. I tried posting Q's to the group - such as what tests to get - but my second post wouldn't go through, saying I need administrator approval. So....I'm left waiting and I really want to connect back with my doc on this today - before the weekend - so I can get bloodwork ordered ASAP. Can you private message me, briefly explaining what each of the below labs represent/indicate? I do have a CBC lab done, which showed low white blood cell count; I got this done at the same time as the B12. The only test on the CBC that came up low was the white blood cell count. It was below range. Regarding Celiac testing - I'd had an endoscopy 8 years ago, along with bloodwork, that showed negative. I did have an IgG prior to that that showed I was sensitive to wheat, however, and I have avoided gluten for 8 years as I do not feel well consuming it. So, I am gluten-intolerant but not Celiac as far as those tests go. Any help today is so appreciated! > > > > Hi Alixe, > > > > What you can do right now is to start supplementing with a good methylcobalamine supplement - which is the best form of the stuff to take. Guest guest
Hi I would think 1500 is a bit high. But you really need to get yours up. We need a good level for our reverse t3 problem. Guest guest
Regarding b-12 dosages: I take 5,000 mcg sublingually every day. (Yes, five THOUSAND). That keeps my b12 level up around 900, which is a huge improvement over what it used to be. But I HAVE to take it every day, last summer I skipped too many doses and it didn't take long for my b12 levels to drop badly. 5,000 mcg may sound like a lot, but it is my understanding that it is not possible to " overdose " on b12...it is water-soluble and any the body can't use is eliminated in the urine. > > > > Actually very little of any B12 swallowed tab gets absorbed irrespective of whether the B12 is a good form or not. Guest guest
Hi, For a level of 600, perhaps 1,000 mcg sublingual Jarrow brand B12. Pam
Guest guest
Hi, B12 serum is best above 1,000. Remember that serum levels are just what's in your blood, not what's at work in your cells. So, 1,500 isn't necessarily too high. Pam
