Hi Ariela,

Do you really mean you took only 4 pills of iron per week? Or did you mean to say per day? I took way more iron than that every day for a month and my ferritin went up only 10 points. It needs to be triple what it is now. Apparently in some of us ferritin rises only very slowly with oral iron supplements. I've scheduled a consult to see if I can start iron IV's. Many people on this group say their ferritin rose dramatically using IV's.

low ferritin problem

Hi.My ferritin level was 40 (pretty low). I thought that is why the isocort gave me heart pain. So after two months of taking 4 pills of iron per week (25 mg each) I finally got my blood test results today. And guess what - my ferritin level hasn't moved at all. How could this be?! How will I be able to move forward in my treatment if I can't get my ferritin up at all?Could it be that my body doesn't take it because he doesn't need anymore iron?

My iron levels are pretty low also but my hemoglobin is just fine.Someone?

It sounds like your iron dose was too low. 150 to 200 mg of elemental iron a

day is recommended to raise low ferritin.

For some people that works; for me I needed the iron IVs.
