Wow. So I went searching for Mayo and RA and found a page with supplement

suggestions.

I am familiar with evening primrose oil, and my chiropractor told me to take 5 g

of fish oil a day to help. I take Dr. Sinatra's Omega Q plus that has lots of

other goodies in it. Just thought I'd pass it on.

Cheers to all. Amy

re the evening primrose oil...my rheumy asked me to NOT take that, saying

something about EPO being contraindicated for women...and mentioning breast

cancer...that was enough to scare me away for life...I do take Life Extension

Fish oil tho. Just wanted to mention that...as he was insistant I NOT take it.

Debbie,

I believe the Epo your doctor was talking about and the EPO I'm talking about

are different. EPO, a supplement, is Evening Primrose Oil and is actually ideal

for women. Mitigates pms, helps with myalgia (in chronic fatigue and

fibromyalgia and RA), also has the added benefit of healthier hair and skin. The

Epo your doctor was think about,a prescription drug, I found this info online:

" patients with cancer-related anemia have commonly been prescribed recombinant

human Erythropoietin (Epo) " and that has shown to have some negative effects.

I have found EPO to be invaluable over the past 20 years and I don't believe the

Mayo Clinic would post harmful supplements on their alternative treatments for

RA website. But I also don't believe that most rheumys prescribe methotrexate!

so you never know. Amy

Debbie,

Thanks for your comments. what is OB?

Amy

> Nope, it was Definitely Evening Primrose Oil..a supplement..because I had been

taking it ....I have a book somewhere, in my entire bookcase of medical books

that does mention that it can be risky for women....It was early on when I

became sick tho..so maybe 10 yrs ago...This rheumy tends to be very conservative

with supplements...he took me off bromelain as well...he does rec fish oil...and

Co Q 10...but thats all he rec for me. I would imagine every patient is

different tho...My long time rheumy has never prescribed any of the more toxic

drugs for me. Altho he did have me on minocin for several years until I

developed a lung conditioin. As it happens, my lung condition can be caused by

minocin use...cases of OB in patients using minocin for acne...and OB has been

seen in RA patients..since I have RA as well as SD...my DR. took me off the

minocin immediately!!

different and what works for one, may not work for another.
