Guest guest
How are your thyroid and sex hormone levels? You need all the hormones balanced. Steph Hair HELP! HI, My hair is coming out even worse than ever!!! Now Im starting to worry, its getting so thin! Last nite I showered and it was just coming off, had to rinse my own hair off me, untangle it from my fingers, and then clean the drain! I have not brushed it yet this morning (too scared) but I have already pulled it off my tea cup, the counter and the frozen chicken I just took out to defrost! I had increased to 180mg armour thyroid about a month ago, am taking bio-HRT and also 2 iododal, plus my usual vitamins and supplements.. I thought the armour and iodal etc would HELP my hair and nails, not make them worse!!! HELP PLEASE! Kathy

Guest guest
The same thing happened to me and my doctor lower the dosage of thyroid. It has taken awhile to adjust but it is definitely better. I also take DHEA, Iodine drops and folic acid. Good luck, I know how you feel. Guest guest
You can avoid the concern of blocking effects of Armour thyroid by allowing it to dissolve under the tongue instead of swallowing it....taste is not bad...this way it avoids the digestive tract and is absorbed better ....calcium can block the absorption of many supplements so it is best to take it with food and away from other things....>> HI, My hair is coming out even worse than ever!!! Guest guest
First of all - we do not allow this kind of attitude toward other members. Gracia is not being confrontational. I happen to agree with her. I have taken BHrt for over 3 years now and it has only helped my thyroid issues. One of the requirements on this list is when you say that something is true and you are challenged then it is in your court to prove that this is the case. Especially if the majority of the people have not heard of it. We are eager to learn but from real info not just a "I have read somewhere". There are lots of people that can post anything on the net as truth. That doesn't mean it is. The issue with spacing meds is that it is a pain in the you know what. We are all very stressed and time is so low. Adding one more thing can be overwhelming. - have you checked your adrenals? Your hot headed response makes me wonder if you have some fatigue as most would not spout off like that. I was very short fused when I had low adrenal status. Something to think about. Guest guest
Your increase of Armour is probably the cause, I think too much T3 versus low T4 can stress some of us out and this stress causes the hairloss, some doctors will "balance" it out with a little T4, that's artificial of course but for some it seems to work well. While I was taking thyroid meds the only time I lost hair like crazy was during my short period on (a low dose) of Armour. I stopped using shampoo to wash my hair and that helped stop the loss (while the effect wore out), in case you're wondering I've been "washing" with silicone-free conditioners since 2002. My hair only grew back months later after I took Kal Super Silica Plus with MSM ( I read about it in a hair forum), I started to notice the regrowth shortly after starting my 2nd bottle.Raquel>> HI, My hair is coming out even worse than ever!!! Guest guest
My hair is getting thin too. what I notice that changing shampoo really makes a big difference. I know the real cause of losing hair is hormonal and vitamin deficiency. It happened to me 3-4 times after a period of losing too much hair changing my shampoo helped a lot. try Pantene shampoo or if you have trader joes store in your place buy Avalon organics , lavender nourshing shamoo.  hope it helps. soheila   From: Kathy <sunbriar@...> Subject: rheumatic Hair HELP! Guest guest
well you have a point--it will be very easy for her to try it. I have never spaced my meds like that though. for years I have taken high doses of sex hormones (5mg E, 250mg P, 20mg T) but now I am trying a low dose of E and P. I am hoping/thinking that enough iodine has finally sensitized my hormone receptors.(I have all my female parts too.) I was not trying to piss you off, I was only adding my experience with BHRT. gracia karen wrote: > > > and exactly HOW is spacing out the meds going to HURT??? Guest guest
I started this thread, I dont see that anyone is being confrontaional, just giving their oppinions on what worked for them. I take the thyroid sublingually, and not near the BIO_HRT, Ive had my blood work done, including free t3 free t4, thyroid antibodies, ferritin, all the hormones, vit D etc.. I think Ive had everything done. my hormones are still low and will be adjusted in june. oh, I also take biotin, geletin, vitamins, Vit D, flax, milk thistle, oregono oil, glucosimine, etc.... Guest guest
Periodically, I lose a lot of hair too. I grew some back, but lately here it comes out like yours. I get hair everywhere and then all of a sudden it stops, grows back and then after a bit, it gets really thin again. Right now, I don't have enough to cover my scalp. ~~~Dolores From: Lynne and Santos <lynneandsantos@...> Subject: Re: rheumatic Re: Hair HELP! rheumatic Date: Monday, June 8, 2009, 1:58 PM Hi Kathy; I know just how you feel.I have SD and hair fallout is one of the firts symptoms of the disease. The the doctor put me on MTX and that really worsened the problem to the point I thought I would become bald. Many meds have that side effect. Guest guest
Kathy, Because of that high dose of armour thyroid, I wonder if that has anything to do with it. My doctor was just explaining how that can backfire and cause you not to make enough Reverse T3....or something along those lines. He said to take my temperature under my tongue for 4 minutes, 15 minutes after waking. See if it is below normal. Guest guest
Kathy, You may want to check into celiac disease as a possible cause of your hair falling out - alopecia is listed as a symptom of celiac disease by the Coeliac organization (www.coeliac.org.uk) and it is listed as a related condition to celiac by other celiac and gluten intolerance web sites. There is a blood test available through a gastroenterologist for it and also a stool test (www.enterolab.com)which I think is more reliable. The treatment for it is eliminating wheat, rye and barley from your diet. I have also heard about taking biotin and also vitamin B12 for alopecia. Guest guest
Hi Kathy; I don't know what disease you have or what meds you are taking other than the one you mention. I have SD and had terrible hair loss.On top of that my doctor put me on methotrexate and that made it even worse. After I was in remission ,and off the MTX I took MSM along with Biotin and in a few months my hair started to regrow. It took a couple of years to get it to a decent lenght and today I have about 70% of my former mop. Guest guest
I have fine hair, too. My personal experience has been that using most " conditioners " leaves me with that waxy coating. Using a blow-dryer heats the wax onto the hair, baking it on. My hair brushes get coated with a white film, as well as my hair! I try to use very simple shampoos, stuff from the co-op. As for conditioners, I finally gave up and usually use a small amount of coconut oil rubbed into wet hair. Some people find that a rinse of diluted vinegar after shampooing will clear out the built-up waxes. Good luck! > > Hi all! I've been having the most frustrating problem with my hair for the past few weeks. It very suddenly started feeling greasy, heavy, and a bit waxy (like it had product buildup). I don't use any hair products except a smoothing serum and even that I use less than 3 times a week and have never had any adverse reaction to it. My hair has always been a bit fine, but super soft and manageable, but now it looks and feels greasy and waxy and heavy right after I wash it. I do blow dry my hair anywhere from 2-5 times a week, but by no means everyday. > > This started immediately after I started using a new bottle of the same conditioner I've been using for a few months. I never had any problems with it before, but after opening this bottle, it started. Coincidence? I switched to a different shampoo and conditioner and the problem went away...for a few days. It's back again. I do use more natural hair products, not Pantene or Dove or any of the standard stuff. I was using Avalon Organics brand shampoo & conditioner. Now I'm using a tiny bit of lavender castile soap for shampoo and Aubrey brand conditioner. Same result with both combinations. > > My diet hasn't changed either. I still eat natural, whole foods. My theory is that my hair is being over-washed and is compensating by over-producing oil. My husband disagrees, saying that this problem wouldn't have come up so suddenly if that were the case. I just don't know what to do! Any ideas out there as to what could be causing this problem and what I can do to remedy it? >
Guest guest
I would recommend rubbing coconut oil into your hair about an hour or so before you are planning to wash it, or if you wash in the morning, do it the night before and put a towel over your pillow for the night. Then in the morning soap up twice with Dr. Bronners and follow with a diluted vinegar rinse. (1/2 Tablespoon of vinegar to 1 cup of water) After that, just choose either the coconut oil or the vinegar as your conditioner. My hair has never looked better since I simplified my hair products!
