Guest guest
J’net Thanks for sharing your journey with all of us. It is great to hear what has been happening to all of you that have had the WLS. I feel that I am really getting ready for anything that comes my way when my time comes. Thanks again. -----Original Message----- From: jnetg60 Sent: Thursday, July 08, 2004 8:25 AM To: gastric-bypass-support-kaiser-patients Subject: Update Hello Everyone, I read all the post everyday for almost a year now and I've really enjoyed hearing everyones story. I just wanted to give a little update on me. I had WLS on Feb 19 in San Diego with Dr. Zorn. At the beginning of Feb I was still 310 and I needed to be 295 for surgery. I think I was trying to sabatoge myself, knowing that this is what I wanted the most and so afraid that it was not going to happen. When I weighed in the day before surgery I was 286. After eight weeks of surgery I was 245 and so very happy. The surgeon was pleased with my results. For the next 8 weeks after that I lost nothing, I mean not a pound! But I continued to eat as I should (no snacking), and I went to the gym everyday and pushed myself everyday. But I was so discouraged, I thought this really is not going to happen, I'm a failure. So I went to see a surgeon on June 22 in Sacramento, he was not upset at my progress and was very encouraging. He said that I was buring lots of fat, my clothes in those 8 weeks had changed almost 3 sizes (strange I think). He said just do what I've been doing and for me not to get so frustrated. I felt a lot better just knowing that he was not worried that something was not working right. He even said I was very healthy which felt wonderful to have a doctor say to me. In all the posts that I have read I have not seen any where people did not lose so early in the game. That is why I wanted to share this. So it has been two weeks since I've seen the surgeor and I have lost about 23 lbs. I'm just so happy that it is working. Today I was 220! What I have learned is that what is important is to do the right things even if we don't see the results right away, our bodies need time to adjust. Thanks for letting me share!!! You are all so wonderful! J'net
Guest guest
J'net, Thank you so much for posting and sharing with us. I totally understand how you were feeling. There were times that weeks would go by and I would not drop a pound. The funny think is it was at those times my body was catching up and people would say wow your losing so much weight! I have been at 195 for weeks now but you no what im so fine with that. I was 359 and so unhappy. Im going to get fitted for my wedding dress next month and I have lost about 45 pounds since I orderd it! amazing huh? Anyway I just wanted to say thanks for being a part of this group. Guest guest
J'net, That's a great story. It is so weird that you lost so quickly after seeing the surgeon! Thanks for sharing. Guest guest
I am glad they had found the problem with your friend. Bless you as well. I am hoping and praying for what you have. congrats on the 51lbs. Love > > > > Today I am 17 days post-op and had my 1st post-op appt. with Dr. Baggs. He put me on Stage lll food, finally! I have lost 17 pounds post-op, for a total of 51 pounds. I am really feeling good, I just get tired easily. I painted my bathroom this week and am going camping this weekend. I feel I have had a very easy recovery. Dr. Baggs told me to discontinue my blood pressure medication, and he told me that a BM once a week was normal at this point, whew! I forgot to ask if I can swim and go back to Curves. I should have made a list of questions. He released me to go back to work next Wednesday. > > I hope everyone having surgery on this site will have an easy time like I have had. My friend that had WLS last week is doing better. She had to go back to surgery because there was not adequate blood flow in part of the pouch. They had to do some minor adjustments and she is much better now and out of ICU. Thank you for your prayers for her, I'm sure they helped. > > Carol > >
Guest guest
HI Rory You are going through the roughest stage of this journey. You still dont feel well from the operation and are bored with the diet stage you are on. What you are going through and feeling is perfectly normal. I went through it too and Im sure most of us did. Hopefully, knowing you arent the only one to get depressed, bored, cranky, frustrated etc at this stage helps. I can only " ditto " the advice given by the others. At this stage, no one around me could do anything right even though they tried to help. Trust me though, it doesnt last long and you will make it through it. REMEMBER: YOU CAN DO THIS !!! Guest guest
Rory, I no just were your at! I was not one of the lucky ones who had surgey with little or no pain. For me the pain was hell! I could not even sleep in my bed for the first two weeks! I could not eat anything that did not make me sick and I thought I would never be able to drink water again, as I gaged everytime I tried. I can tell you this,is does get better. I know thats not much but its all I can say. I also ended up with an incarcerated hernia, very very painful. I was in and out of the hospital allot. You can go back to my posts around January - february of 2003 and you will see tons of my whinny post. (smile) Please keep posting, you no we are here for you. Guest guest
not so about watching the food channel , maybe for you but not everybody i watch it daily and i have no problem , my son thinks like you and i had to tell him i watched them before and i will continue to watch them now i enjoy them and i get ideas on how to fix meals that i can eat in the future.. How is your water intake. not drinking enough water can also make you think you are hungry. Also I don't see you saying that you are doing your portein shakes. Sipping on the protein shakes will also help. I also know for a fact that the food channel and any thing else related tt food will only make you think more about food. When my mom was visitin that is her favorite channel to watch so I had a big problem so I had to wean her off of that channel otherwise that was all I was thinking about.I hope this helps.Ramona > Unfortunately kids, you have found me in a dark place. Guest guest
PROTEIN SHAKES! That is all I can say. And yougart shakes too. I have PCOS ( poly-cystic ovarian syndrome, and am ( was? still am?) inasulin resistant. Meaning that I felt STARVED after eating ! Even after the surgery. I was on Metformin, but was too dehydrated to continue, and the hunger pangs and everything came back! But, I took my vitamins. DRANK water and sugar/cafeinne free things like mad, and ate when I was hungry, and i still lost. Chicken broth, pureed veggies mixed in do wonders...you can DO IT and it is only another two weeks...hang in there!"Rory G." wrote: Unfortunately kids, you have found me in a dark place. Guest guest
LOL shirley...I am SO with you on that one. I love the food channel...I guess cooking is a hobby for me. While I was home recovering from surgery I would watch that all day long and everyone thought that was so wierd and didnt it make me hungry or something...and I just said no, I just like watching it....now, I didnt really feel like cooking for about 2wks post-op, but after I was done with the liquids phase, I was good to go in the kitchen again. Now, learning not to graze as you cook...that was a whole different experience...sorry, i digress.... Too funny. Shanna > > Unfortunately kids, you have found me in a dark place. Ellen Update My recuperation from reconstructive surgery and the infection is going better. I still have an open wound on my hip that my hubby has to pack twice a day and Im on two kinds of antibiotics, but I feel so much better. I am going back to work today...light duty. So there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Im still really swollen so dont know what my new size will be but I can definitely see a difference and love my new tummy!! Im losing again...14 pounds since Sept 10. I am 17 pounds from goal. I know I will lose more as swelling goes down too. While in the hospital with the infection, my labs came back that my nutritional needs where low...so I now take 2 multivitamins a day and focus focus focus on protein !!Im glad Im back up and running. Im sorry I could not respond to posts for a few days. I hope to catch up on them soon. Just know that all my best wishes go out to all.Huggles
