Guest guest
> Bayer has announced a recall of bg test strips for the " Contour TS " > meter. > Info on the bad lot #'s, etc is at: > I used to use a Contour (damn awful expensive strips though - just like everyone else, except WalMart and Ebay . Dr. Bernstein liked it too (and he's a stickler for accurate meters - has to be if you're going to run a BG of 81-90) Then he changed he recommendations - something about the test strip manufacturer changing I guess, and the last time I used a Contour (over 6 months ago), I found it inaccurate - both between tests and compared to my Walmart meter. The Walmart meter is the same as the Medisense Optium/Xtra, which I find accurate enough, and relatively repeatably. Bayer apparently has put out a " Contour II " meter I think (this maybe be what the 'TS' meter is), perhaps to address this - new meter, new test strips. I would like to get a Glucowatch (it uses infrared light to make the measurement) when it is finally approved, although I fear that the first (or second, or third) generation CGMS monitors are not going to be very accurate. <rant> After all - what diabetic wants even sorta-normal fasting BGs? Although the new AACE (or maybe it was ACE) guidelines calling for fasting BG under 90 (I think I remember right from Dr. B's teleseminar) would " force " better accuracy, if they are adopted by diabetics and physicians that is - which is unlikely I think, not as long as high-carb remains the standard. Although, hell just apparently froze over and the ADA endorsed LC diets for *weight control*, but not *glucose control* (some crap about long-term risks). Why these supposed risks (which haven't hurt Dr. B. in over 30 years) would be okay for people losing weight, but nor those not losing weight is a mystery - " ADA-think " .. </rant>
