Guest guest Posted June 25, 2001 Report Share Posted June 25, 2001 Yes Bill, still no motorized vehicles allowed (although they have an ambulance and a fire truck) and yes they do a lot of brooming and shoveling. Actually the whole place (Mackinaw Island and Mackinaw City across the lake at which you depart on ferry to the island) have become very " touristy " with lots of things to do and see. The island though is still very scenic, not too spoiled with commericialization and well worth spending time there. I recall they said about 600 people reside on the island as permanent residents. I'd guess a majority of them work in the tourism trade.
