Guest guest
That is interesting-my face and hands have gotten much more wrinkled since I have gone on AP, but I just assumed it was because my skin had become so much more sensitive to the sun. Even with SPF 50, I still burned last summer. Is it something other than that? Mona rheumatic Dolores/AP and collagen? Hi Dolores, did you say AP gets rid of collagen i.e breaks it down ? You said your face got wrinkled. Do you know why AP affects collagen? thanks... Leonie

Guest guest
Eve,Mona; Mino interferes with a protein that SD needs to make collagen. That is why it is a good idea to rotate antibiotics if you can.Our bodies were never meant to be on antibiotics for years and years.I scare myself each time I look in a miror.Mind you I am 10 years older than when I started AP. Guest guest
Lynne, right now I am just on Minocin and Biaxin and alternating them during the week. What you are saying is that after a period of time I may have to change to another antibiotic then those two? I have to watch what I take because some of the antibiotics I have a problem with, like not being able to sleep or racing heart. Guest guest
Well this is encouraging. On top of feeling like crap I get to look forward to premature aging as well. Has anyone else had this problem? I think I am giving up folks and going on the biologics. Everything I have read about AP talks about fewer side effects which is beginning to sound untrue. Guest guest
For those of you who are getting discouraged, I am only talking about the people who have scleroderma that has led to overproduction of collagen. I have never seen a person with R/A have this problem, Scleroderma is a terminal illness. It used to be about a 5 year survival rate. however, now with A/P, the survival rate can be 20 years or more. Years ago they treated S/D with steroids and toxic medicines. Some doctors still do. And that is why people died from it. The toxic chemicals made them worse. Discovering A/P is a God-send for someone who has been told " Your terminal " , like I was told. They also added on that they would do their best to keep me comfortable. That was in 2005. I have to tell you that w/o A/P, I would not be here writing this e:mail nor doing anything at all. I would or should have been in my grave back in 2006. I was skin & bones and couldn't get myself out of bed. A/P gave me back my life by reducing the run away collagen build up that was turning me into stone. Scleroderma is also called The Stone disease. If you don't have scleroderma, I don't think you get the collagen buildup, but I can't say for sure. The R/A experts will have to confirm that. It is also true that a chronic illness can make one very depressed and premature wrinkling is one more thing to worry about. However, being the ultimate optimist that I am, I feel that being alive is a gift. If I have a few battle scars, at least I can function. I don't like to see my face in the mirror. Not long ago, I had a nice full face with plump cheeks. Scleroderma was the reason I was not getting wrinkles. Well, been on A/P since 2005, not only restored my total ability to function, but it also got rid of my plump cheeks. As much as I don't like it, it is a small price to pay for feeling good. A/P is a God send. I will always be forever grateful to have found it. The best to you all~~~~Dolores & Mike~~~~~The glass is never half empty! It is always half full. > > > > From: Mona Goldstein <spellers@optonline . net > > <mailto:spellers% 40optonline. net>> > > Subject: Re: rheumatic Dolores/AP and collagen? > > rheumatic@grou ps.com <mailto:rheumatic% 40groups. com> > > Date: Saturday, March 14, 2009, 10:11 PM > > > > That is interesting- my face and hands have gotten much more wrinkled > > since I have gone on AP, but I just assumed it was because my skin had > > become so much more sensitive to the sun.
