Dear Ethel,

Do you have any advice for me please??? It seems I've taken this diet business

to far and cut our far too many foods out of my diet for fear they might be

making my RA worse. I've lost 34 pounds since changing my diet. Not all at once

- first I went down 10 pounds and so on till now when i weigh only 121 at 6ft

tall (i was 155or more). I'm afraid the men in white coats will soon cart me off

in their truck to a mental ward and force feed me on all the foods I dread will

give me excrutiating pain. Before RA, it would have been a heavenly scenario to

be told that nicely dressed men were going to pick me up and force feed me cream

buns, not not now !! I'm so terrfied about all this. I'm on Mino now... 100mg

MWF and hoping it works. Otherwise I'll have to go on Methotrexate as I can't

go on losing weight. It seems I've mucked up my digestion with all this cutting

foods out business and now I don't know how to get it going again and allow

myself to eat without getting paranoid or in pain. It just dawned on me that I'm

slowly dying of malnutrition. Too high a price to pay for trying to get rid of

RA. Does this dam disease never give us any peace! I'm trying adding in chicken

and meat broth and amaranth flour pancakes as well as cooked meat like lamb and

tuna with veges which I already eat, but not enough of. I wish there was a food

that would fatten me up a bit that didn't cause troubles but I'm afraid that it

probably wouldn't matter even if there was a totally benevolent food, that i

would still be paranoid. I know you're not a pyschologist but could you give me

some hope ?

thanks so much...

Hi Leonie;

I have been computerless for the last few weeks so I don't know

what has been going on with the group.Sorry to hear about your problem

but I might be able to help a bit as my second degree was in

dietetics.First question I have is wheather you were properly tested for

food sensitivities or doing the food elimination without help.If you

live in the U.S get your doctor to send a blood sample to U.S Biotek to

find out for sure.

I have multiple food sensitivities caused by my then unknown

Celiac disease. What you can eat is usually sweet potatoe and avocado

that have a lot of calories.I guarantie that an avocado a day will make

you gain weight. At least you should be eating chicken and some small

fish, the big ones such as tuna or salmon have too many contaminates. Many

people have beef and dairy sensitivities so lay off of them until you

know for sure.Rice and corn are almost always o.k. so you can load up on

just about all oriental food as long as you do the cooking your

self.Thai,Chinese and Indian foods have great taste and make you want to

eat a lot.For now avoid the nightshades ,beef, dairy, wheat, soy, and sugar

as they tend to cause inflamation...i.e. pain.Have you checked out the

gluten free section of your grocery store? They not only have gluten

free but soy, dairy and sugar free foods.Add ground flax seed to your

meals and cook using coconut oil. There are 2 types of coconut oil,one

that tastes of coconut that you can use in Thai and Indian cooking and

one that has the flavour removed for other cooking.Lots of calories

there and it is an antifungal/antiviral too boot.

If you want the address for U.S Biotek let me know and I will

pass it along.
