Sadness is an emotion! Exactly! And a powerful one at that! There are

positive and negative emotions and we are capable of making a choice. Animals

don't always have choices, but we as humans can make a choice. We can choose to

smile or cry. We can choose to accept our disease or go on with the " Why me's! "

From what I have experienced and noticed, there are steps we go through. First

one is disbelief which is denial. Not me!, Other people yes, but not me. I

exercise, eat right and have always been healthy. So, why me? The second stage

is sadness and helplessness! Woe is me! My life is over! How can I live this

kind of life? God, take this away from me. It's not my fault! The third stage

is Anger! Damn, not me! I'm not taking this sitting down. What can I do to

reverse this? Doc, help me. Hello, support group. What should I do? What are

you doing? Does this and that work? Next stage we implement is resolution. We

hear and absorb knowledge from

others who have been there and conquered. We acquire strength from others. We

go into action. Anger, rage is the impetus for action. Then acceptance. Okay,

I have this and I'm going to live with it. Other people have, I can too! I have

only one life and not going to waste a minute of it. No body knows when the

days they've been alloted are over. Yes, I have a terminal illness. But, isn't

life itself a terminal illness and it's what we do with our lives that count in

the end. A good life leaves you with good memories in your old age. In the end

all we have is our memories. You choose. Do you want sad memories or

wonderful memories. Form your thoughts daily. It comes down to your choice!

You and I have the power to change every moment of every day in how we FEEL

(emotion) We can feel good ( positive emotion) or we can FEEL sad (a negative

emotion). Anyway you look at it, it boils down to choice. Do you want people

to look at you as a sad sack or as a role

model to emulate. What kind of vibes are you leaving behind? Do these vibes

help or hinder others with diseases. Do you want to help them? Are they lifted

up or torn down because of you? This may not mean a thing to any of you, but I

have found out through experience that the more joy you spread, the more joyful

you become. A joyful person is like a magnet. People are drawn to you because

they want some of your joy. When they get your joy, it grows and they go out

and spread more joy. You can not ever get rid of joy. The more you give, the

more you get. The same goes for love. Same powerful emotion! The world opens

itself up to you and at the point you have become the vessel that joy flow

through. Make your choice today and start acting joyful. Before you know it,

it will come naturally and you won't have to act it anymore. It will be really

ingrained in every fiber of every cell of your Spirit, Mind and Body. Your

smile, your strength, your joy and your love

will heal your immune system and your immune system will heal your body. What

have you got to lose? Start today!~~~~~With much Love, Dolores and Mike

My emotions have been like a roller coaster ever since I became

sick. My husband has been so good about accepting and supporting me

during my lows. By now he knows it doesn't take long before the

highs are back again anyway.

Hi,

This is so very true, even for those who are not ill. But, I just want to add

that sometimes if you have neurological bacteria you are not capable of making

the decision to be happy. Some of the major symptoms of neurological problems

are mood swings, uncontrolled crying, rage, sadness, etc. And, the worst thing

during these episodes is that most of the time you are aware that this is not

really you acting out. Many people lose friends, family and spouses because of

these symptoms and they don't realize that it is a medical problem and not a

personality defect. You may want to ask your doctor if it's possible that this

is caused by your illness and you are not just depressed because you have been

diagnosed with this.

Hi , You are perfectly correct about neurological bacteria and mood

swings. That's what they are " mood swings " . While a person is in a tantrum and

having a downward mood swing, they know what they are doing, wish they wouldn't

keep on doing it, but at that time powerless to stop the behavior. The pendulum

then swings to the rational side and one can then get medical, therapeutic and

psychological help. Discussions on attitude are just one of the avenues

proposed. I never said it was the only way, but one of the ways. It has worked

for me and countless others and I gave a few examples in another general e:mail.

All I said is try or don't. Somewhere in the behavioral pattern there comes a

time when we can make a choice which will help us adjust. You know people are

more powerful when the choice is in their hands. There is no mountain high

enough that we can't climb if we want to. Take care, Love, peace and above all

good health to all~~~~~~Dolores & Mike
