Guest guest
This is the first that I've heard oral clindamycin was absorbed equally as well as IV clindamycin. Is that what everyone else understands as well? If that's the case, it certainly would simplify my situation. S. Debbie in Ohio rheumatic IV Clindamycin I have begun Minocin and have a prescription for IV clindamycin for longstanding (20 yrs) RA. I live in a small town and must drive to a nearby town to have the IV administered; however, an RN friend has agreed to administer the IV for me in my home. Unfortunately, neither my local pharmacy nor Walgreens pharmacy can provide IV clindy--only oral. Has anyone had IV antibiotics administered outside of a hospital or doctor's office environment? Do you have any suggestions? I have three children in 6th grade, 5th grade and preschool. While it could be done, traveling for the IV would be very inconvenient. Thanks, S. Guest guest
Hi Angie; I did both I.V and oral. There was no difference for me so I went back on the oral.I.V.s are great if you have tummy problems and because it is not quite as hard on the liver Lynne > This is the first that I've heard oral clindamycin was absorbed > equally as well as IV clindamycin. Guest guest
I take my clindamycin orally also. No one ever told me it had to be given intravenously! Guest guest
Mike, can you please tell us your dose of clindamycin and Minocine every week? I would like to start Clindamycin oral. I started seeing a lot of benefits using Minocycline(generic ) for two months. I havent seen that kind of benefit even using Methotrexate which I injected myself every week. I stopped using Methotrexate and started the AP approach. > > From: DEBBIE GIBSON <Debbullwinkle@ fuse.net > <mailto:Debbullwink le%40fuse. net>> > Subject: Re: rheumatic IV Clindamycin > rheumatic@grou ps.com <mailto:rheumatic% 40groups. com> > Date: Monday, March 23, 2009, 11:27 PM > > When I was considering IV Clindy I called several nursing agencies and > they all said they could get it and give it to me, based on my > insurance... .I went with oral instead as my AP physician, Dr. Whitman > said he felt the IV clindy and the oral clindy were absorbed pretty > well...equally. > Debbie in Ohio > rheumatic IV Clindamycin > > I have begun Minocin and have a prescription for IV clindamycin for > longstanding (20 yrs) RA. Guest guest
Hi, Mike just started on Minocin for arthritis. I, Dolores, am the one with scleroderma. I started on Minocin in December of 2005 after being bedridden for most of 2005. Then I saw Dr. Trentham in Jan 2006 and he put me on 100mg Minocin Twice daily. Made great strides on that. Then last September, I went on the Marshall protocol. I reduced the Minocin to 25mg every other day, after a short while on Benicar and introduced the clindamycin at about 37.5 mg every other day. You need a pill cutter to cut it into bits. It is a miniscule amount, but it is introduced slowly in the event it causes an intolerable herx. I never herxed, so a few weeks later, I doubled the dose and then again a month or two later doubled the dose again while also increasing the dose of Minocin. I finally got up to Therapeutic dose which by Marshall standards is 100mg. Minocin every other day and 150 mg clindamycin also every other day. I took them together. It didn't specify on the bottle to alternate on which days. I still never herxed. But the Benicar was giving me uncontrollable diarrhea. My current doc who is an Infectious Disease doctor told me to discontinue the Benicar. I did and the diarrhea went away. Then he asked me to substitute Bactrim for Clindamycin. Apparently he found bugs I didn't know I had and felt a while on Bactrim may reduce that load. I am now taking 100 mg Minocin and 1/2 tab of Bactrim along with 1/2 caplet of zithromycin every tenth day. When the Bactrim is done, I will go back to the clindamycin. This entire A/P is an experiment. Everyone responds differently, everyone has a batch of different bacteria that knocks down the immune system, so you have to keep trying the antibiotics for a long term and watch the results. Sometimes the results are immediate, sometimes it takes a little longer. On the overall, I feel that without the A/P, I would not have made it this far. Keep on asking questions. That is the only way to survive this. Good luck to you. Guest guest
Thanks Mike. I was on Methotrexate for six months and it not help me out. So I was searching for something on web and I found this group and the AP therapy. I bought the book from Amazon and I am on Minocycline( generic) for the past 2.5 months. In the beginning I was herxing a bit but it was kept off due to Methotrexate still in my system since my RA did not want me to take me off of it. I was using Mino 50 mg twice a day for two weeks. I quit Methotrexate and I tried Mino 100mg twice a day three times a week (MWF) just like in the stated in the book. Only my wrist and shoulders ache a lot but the rest of muscles and joints have healed already. I have so much energy now as compared to what I had with Methotrexate. I had a recent appointment with my Rheumy and as usual he said this happens in RA every now and then (as stated in the book). By the way I was seronegative as my test results never showed any RA factors. Now my CRP level is even less than one with ESR only a bit high. Its been two months now since I took the last Methotrexate shot so lets see how it continues.
