Guest guest
Hi Everyone! I was wondering if anyone here has had an experience with gluten intollerance (Celiac Disease) possibly being the cause of other autoimmune disorders. Some of you may remember that my mom was diagnosed with scleroderma several months ago, and I've been trying to help find the best treatment for her. Well, we've been finding that she may also be gluten intolerant. I am, I get very sick when I eat gluten. I also have 2 boys with Type 1 diabetes..so Celiac is very likely in the family, since a lot autoimmune diseases seem to run in my family. I was reading up on the scleroderma.org site and read that there can be a connection between SD and Celiac. In fact Celiac may be a cause of SD, so I told my mom to stay off of gluten for a while. She's been having problems with granola cereal so I put 2 + 2 together, since granola cereal was my first clue to my diagnoses of gluten intolerance. So, we'll see. Anyone else have any experience or knowledge on this subject? Thanks! Guest guest
Hi Cheryl; Celiac is an inherited disease so the chances of your mom having it are high and YES Celiac can be the cause of the disease because it ruins your gut and lets the micoplasma get into yor system.CD is responsible for many diseases so you should read www.celiac.com for help. They send out a letter about 3 times a month so join up. Celiac syndrome can be as damaging and is treated the same way. Lynne > Hi Everyone! Guest guest
I don't have answers, but I can tell you my experience. My experience is that celiac disease is very related to my autoimmune disease. I have Hashimotos and RA. I tested negative on the biopsy of small intestine (via endoscopy), but results did show a small reaction with IGG blood test. While the test was helpful, the main thing though, is that I can see and feel the reactions as plain as day. I not only react to gluten, but also to other glycoproteins, such as casseinate & eggs. The IGG test was helpful for identifying which glycoproteins were my biggest problems. It seems to me that when a reaction begins with one glycoprotein, then there is a tendency for reactions to other glycoproteins as well. I wasn't born this way. Drank milk, and ate bread, cheese, yogurt all my life. I have found some tricks that, so far, minimize my reactions to certain foods. Anyway, I feel that eating those foods make inflammation grow, and interfere with biological processes. To me, it does not seem that the RA will go away when we eliminate those foods. However, eliminating certain foods will slow down, and possibly pause the damage. Amy Cheryl Duran wrote: > > Hi Everyone!
