Guest guest
The Holtorf clinic in CA knows how to treat those cases. I am traveling from a long distance to see them and you live just nearby. Lucky you. check out thier website. I know they are expensive. Wrote this just so you will be aware that there is a doctor who can help in these cases, and works really close to where you live. for me, I is worth spending money on seeing their specialist, because then I will be able (hopefuly) to return to fuul jobs and earn that money back. > > Greetings -- I've been a member of this forum for quite awhile now and I'm hoping someone out there might have a good referral for me, as I'm in desperate need at this time. :-( > > I've been suffering with extreme fatigue, mental fogginess, forgetfulness, and other symptoms, as a result of hypothyroid, adrenal, and perimenopause issues, as well as low ferritin (iron), and a few other things. These issues are now making it nearly impossible to work, and this is of great concern being that I'm currently single and also have no family to turn to…..and I'm employed by self! I have been taking bio-identical compounded thyroid hormones and iron, and other supplements, but have seen no improvement. > > I had tried my hardest to get the help I needed within the Kaiser system, seeing several endocrinologists, ob/gyn, nutritionists, etc, but arrived at the conclusion that Kaiser just couldn't help me. I then saw an integrated medicine doc who was indeed more knowledgeable, but still not up on all the latest in regard to my issues, so not much help there either. I'm currently seeking a referral to a doctor that specializes in the issues mentioned above, and is expert in treating with bio-identical hormones and supplements. > > I should also mention that the industry I'm in was hit VERY hard by the economy, and there has not been much work, so funds are extremely limited. And again, I have Kaiser for health insurance, so I'll be paying for seeing an outside doc on my own dime. I guess what I'm saying is….that I can't afford the expensive high end doctors who charge $400 -- $800 for initial visit. :-( > > If anyone knows of a doctor or clinic that might be able to help me, or some resources that might be helpful, I would be most grateful to hear about them. I'm in the Los Angeles/Orange County area of California. I can't help with " not-expensive " docs but we can help with cheap resources for buying meds (without prescription) and resources where you can order your own labs. Have a read of the web link below and see if you think you have RT3 issues Working with a competent Dr is the best option but self treatment is not impossible. www.thyroid-rt3.com Nick
Guest guest
Hi all. I am a Holtorf patient and just a couple of things for a headsup... I have spent $1500 in supplements and scripts in the first two visits with Holtorf in addition to the $800 for the two office visits. (The bloodwork is covered by my insurnace, thank god!) The $395 that they charge is over what is allowed for out of network providers (I have a PPO) and their own compounding pharmacy does not qualify for full insurance reimbursement. In short out of $2300, I have gotten about $300 back from my insurance company. In addition, they did not test my ferritin or saliva cortisol, both of which are important before starting t3 therapy (or so I have learned). I had ferritin done privately and of course it is in the basement at 18. I have continued with the very small cortisol dose (5mg) that I was given and the SRT3 (ramped up to my max dose of 37.5 right now for 50 days) and am not suffering any ill effects but I still don't feel right about the supplement hard sell or the lack of all the proper tests (although they took about 50 vials of blood!). On the advice of this group I have stopped some of the supplements that Holtorf put me on (DHEA, pegnonelone) and started some of my own (iron, sea salt) And most importantly I still don't feel RIGHT. This will be 3 weeks on their pharmaceutical protocol, 7 weeks on the supplements. On my next visit (only $200!), I am going to discuss which supplements are the most important, what I can get offline cheaper (the powdered multivitamin for one, $25 instead of $49), and T3 outside of their pharmacy. If they are not willing to work with me on this I will be either self-treating or looking for another doc myself. The Holtorf folks have their hearts in the right place but I think they too are still learning about this disease. in LA > > > > Greetings -- I've been a member of this forum for quite awhile now and I'm hoping someone out there might have a good referral for me, as I'm in desperate need at this time. :-( > > > > I've been suffering with extreme fatigue, mental fogginess, forgetfulness, and other symptoms, as a result of hypothyroid, adrenal, and perimenopause issues, as well as low ferritin (iron), and a few other things.
