Guest guest
What range does your lab use? It must be different from mine; my lab uses a " normal " range of 10 - 291. Your ferritin is 90...and you are concerned about it being too high...but by my lab's range 90 is just fine. > > My ferritin was 90 about 6 months ago, so dropped from 200 mg iron to 100, retested in 3 months, still ~90, so dropped to 100. Another 2 months and still 91, so I dropped to 50, then just quit a few days ago as I didn't want it to go too high. Bear in mind that they drew about 14 tubes of blood from me each time due to all the labs I had done, and my ferritin still didn't drop -- or went quickly back up due to supplementing. > > Would it be safe to drop it for now and then retest in a couple months? I am 87.5 mcg t3 as of today. I just don't want to get into low ferritin again. At one point a few years ago it was 20 and it took forever to get up, but I never was a decent dose of t3, either. > > Thanks, > Kathleen >
Guest guest
ALL my specialists say ferritin should be above 100, so i guarantee you 90 is not a problem. Wish i had that level!!Sendt fra min iPhoneDen 18. mars 2010 kl. 14.31 skrev "Margery__W" : What range does your lab use? It must be different from mine; my lab uses a "normal" range of 10 - 291. Guest guest
Hello, The range is the same. No, I am not concerned about it being too high. I just wondered if I need to keep taking iron to maintain a ferritin of 90 or if I can stop supplementing now. Thank you, Kathleen > > > > My ferritin was 90 about 6 months ago, so dropped from 200 mg iron to 100, retested in 3 months, still ~90, so dropped to 100. Guest guest
My own experience is that it takes a lot more iron to RAISE ferritin than it does to MAINTAIN a good level. If you discontinue supps I would suggest testing ferritin frequently, you want to catch dropping ferritin early, because you already know that low-ferritin hole is a tough one to climb out of. I suspect that anyone who has ever had a low-ferritin problem will always need iron supplements, although likely a lower " maintenance " dosage. What a successful iron maintenance dose is depends a lot on how much iron you are LOSING. I have read that getting up to the proper dose of T3 helps one " hold on " to ferritin better, conversely, hypoT people often lose iron like crazy. Menstruating women lose iron every month. My own gastrointestinal issues cause me to continuously lose iron. Hope this helps. > > > > > > My ferritin was 90 about 6 months ago, so dropped from 200 mg iron to 100, retested in 3 months, still ~90, so dropped to 100.
