Guest guest
, Giving blood will lower your ferritin levels from what I have read. I also know my ferritin levels went down when I was giving blood for different tests. Years ago, when I was donating for a marrow drive, I know that they wouldn't take anyone that was on certain medications, and one of them was thyroid medication. So you might want to call and ask. If your ferritin level is low, I would not donate, just my .02 Terri From: shelbyla1022 Sent: Thursday, March 11, 2010 11:34 PM To: RT3_T3 Subject: Giving blood with low ferritin... So here's a weird question... I regularly give blood and I am coming up on my donor date (April 2nd). Is it safe/advisable to give blood with low ferritin? Does giving blood have any impact on ferritin levels or T3 or anything? With the medication in my blood, is my blood ok to give?Just wondering... Guest guest
Giving blood lowers ferritin levels. I would like to donate, too, but with my low ferritin I can't, it would just make my ferritin even lower. I have to selfishly hang on to every drop. As an example of this, there is an uncommon disease called hemochromatosis, where iron levels are too HIGH. The usual treatment for hemochromatosis is GIVING BLOOD because giving blood lowers iron. > > , > > Giving blood will lower your ferritin levels from what I have read. Guest guest
Wow. Thanks for all the replies. I wonder if this could have impacted my last ferritin test. I think it was about 10 days after I gave blood. Ok, no giving blood for now. Bummer for all those people who need O neg... > > So here's a weird question...
