Hi

I began the plaquenil in August 2006 and in October added minocycline

100mg MWF. By January I was pretty well pain free. I continued with

the plaquenil for another 15 months because it controlled the pain

and inflammation, though I still had quite a bit which flared and

died down all year, seemingly with no pattern. In January this year I

decided to stop the Plaq and see what happened and in April my pain

levels went up quite a lot. About 3 weeks ago I decided to give the

plaq another try (along with the minocycline) and I seem quite a bit

better - I can walk reasonably well again anyway.

So I don't think it's harmful to take plaquenil with minocycline.

Being a mild DMARD it may even reduce the inflammation so that the

mino can do its work better and faster. It's important to keep the

inflammation under control when taking mino or it's less effective.

I've been using NSAIDS but they play havoc with my digestive system

so I can't do that any more. I haven't had any problems with my eyes

so far and was told that though eye problems are possible, they are

very few and far between.

It's a journey of exploration and experiment to find the most

effective drug procedures for each of us. I'm sure you will discover

your best way of controlling this disease with a little tweaking here

and there.
