Guest guest
Hello, I have a question. If the spinal fusion is indeed a fusion of bone (taken from the rib or hip) as most of us have experienced with our children or ourselves, why would rods have to be replaced years later for the lady who wrote and said her rods had broken? If the bones have fused, why do replacement rods need to be put in? I can understand why the rods are not removed once the fusion happens as it is a major surgery but if they break and need to come out, why do they need to go back in if the bones are fused and healed? Anyone know? in land ************************************** Get a sneak peek of the all-new AOL at http://discover.aol.com/memed/aolcom30tour
Guest guest
Hi Eve, I have been a patient of Dr. Rand. Although he did not do my surgery as far as I'm concerned He is the best around. I have also heard very good things about Dr. Glazar. I think your in good hands with either one. ************************************** Get a sneak peek of the all-new AOL at http://discover.aol.com/memed/aolcom30tour
Guest guest
Broken rod is usually the result of non-union...a failed fusion.. Guest guest
Hi , In my case, it turned out the bones had not fused, or at least not completely. Over time, where there was non-union (they don't know why) there was too much pressure on the rods and they bent and finally broke. You're right -- if the fusion heals properly the rods should be unnecessary, but in my case it never healed. Bad luck... Eve Re: choosing doctors Hello, I have a question. Guest guest
I'm glad he is helping you and others. But he promised to > monitor me thru the protocol and then proceeded to change all the rules. I want a doctor who will be honest with me from the start. So, I will not be seeing him again. But thanks for the information. I hope he works out for the people you recommend him to. Take care~~~~Dolores * * * * * One of the websites that I did research on has a bulletin board where you can ask for information on local doctors. They sent me a list with doctors from all over the world. If anyone wants a copy, e-mail me off list and I'll send it to you on Tuesday. Or if you recognize which website this is, you can post on the board and have them send you one directly.
