Guest guest
Hi Beth I was on Minocin and doing quite well until, it was withdrawn from the UK market and I was forces to take a generic for about a year during which time my RA got worse. After abput a year on the generic, Minocin reappeared on the market but by then I had decided to take Methotrexate to slow down the progression of the disease. The MTX has finally brought down my ESR level to normal and the rheumy has added Sulfasalazine to the MTX. I may yet go back to Minocin and have not really made up my mind on this one as I am not sure the Minocin will be efficacious enough. I do know some meds take months to produce good results after kicking in. Good Luck. Dr. S. in Chattanooga told me brand name vs. generic didn't matter. Well, I am on a generic and I never herxed--although I'm in a terrible flare and have been since three weeks on the meds. How long should I give this before deciding that maybe the generic isn't working? I know I have to be patient for AP to work, but I don't want to waste six months on a generic if it is never going to work. I NEED this therapy to work for me. BTW, I've been to Harold's web page and the comments on this generic are good, so I thought it would be ok. And the bottle says it's pelleted. Guest guest
Thank you Ken for the reply. I'm really wondering if I should just stop taking the generic and move on to brand name Minocin. Stories like yours make me think I should definitely be on the brand name although my doctor seems to think it does not matter. Like I said, I don't want to waste six months waiting to see if it's going to help or not. Anybody else have an opinion on this? Guest guest
Hello everyone, my doctor gave me a prescription of brand name minocin and I picked it up today at Walgreens. I hope they help more then the generic pills. I had good success with the generic but kind of plateaued the last couple of months. I hope the brand name will put some oomph into my problem. I will let you know more in a month or so. Guest guest
I was told by my mail order pharmacy (under my health insurance plan) that brand name Minocin is no longer being made, and hasn;t been, for over a yr. So I am confused. When I read these posts, I am getting the impression that the brand name IS bening made? (and under my health plan, I do have the option to pay for brand, so I know that the pharmacy isn't telling me it's not available ONLY because it's not covered under my prescription plan; I DO have the option to pay for it outright. I spoke to two pharmacists there, who each researched the question, and they both said it is no longer being made) Thanks for any insights - Les rheumatic How long would you give a generic? rheumatic Date: Wednesday, March 4, 2009, 4:54 AM I've been on AP for 9 weeks approximately. Guest guest
To all of you who have been denied the Brand name Minocin, it is being made by Triax Pharmaceutical. Too bad we can't get a lobbyist in Washington to put an end to this farce. Big Pharm is blocking our rights because they want us to buy the toxic meds developed by Big Pharm which are expensive and keep us ill eventually killing us, but making Big $$$$$$'s for Big Pharm in the meantime. I have been on Minocin (Brand Only) since 2005. My doc writes (No substitutions) and I have never been denied. One time I was sent a substitute. I immediately called, they checked the Rx, apologized and sent me the correct Minocin (Brand name only). No excuses they must follow Dr.'s orders. Insist on it or go elsewhere. They will find the meds to give you as they don't want to lose your business. Yes I had to pay more, but it will be worth the money for me to go into remission.
