Guest guest
Hello all: I am new to the group, having just found it in my quest to help my mother, who was diagnosed with polymyositis back in 2000. After having her go through all conventional drugs (prednisone, methyltrexate, imuran) to no avail, she is ready to branch out, and I was fortunate to stumble upon the rheumatic.org website, and learn about antibiotic treatment. We're now in the process of finding more info, and trying to get her in front of a Dr. who will be willing to administer the treatment. At any rate, my question is this: is there anyone out there who has experience with a knee replacement at the same time as undergoing the antibiotic treatment? Along with the polymyositis (or maybe because of it?) my mom has developed severe arthritis in her right knee, is bone on bone, and can barely walk because of that pain (in addition to the extreme muscle weakness). Her Dr. is saying surgery is the only option for the arthritis pain, and we are wondering whether to proceed with surgery at the same time as we begin to consider antibiotic treatment for the polymyositis. Any insight or advice is welcome. And thank you so much for providing this forum -- it really means so much to us.
