Gotcha :) I didn't test aldosterone until I'd been on HC for about 5 months, so

I don't know if it was already low or if it became so after being on HC. I

didn't get the symptoms until around the time I had it tested though.

I'll shoot you a private email with my potassium source. Hope you get those RT3

results soon!

waiting on RT3 labs to see if I need to do just T3. I am seriously hypothyroid

My aldosterone started out at 4 <range <=21 > with all the great symptoms. I think it got worse on the HC but has definitely gotten better with the florinef.

The RT3 test takes 3-5 business days they tell me so hopefully the next day or two. I had it done last Friday.

Thanks in advance for the source! Hope it isn't the one I have, they now require a script :(

Passing out does not sound fun. Hope you continue to make progress in that

regard!

Kitty,

I'm hoping my Florinef arrives soon and that it makes a difference in making my

BP normal as opposed to nudging into high, that's for sure. I didn't have a BP

monitor until a few days ago, though in recent years it's been edging higher

when I had physicals.

I'm on high Isocort -- 42.5 mg, and waiting impatiently for Cortef to arrive

too. Lots of hypoadrenal symptoms, though I wake up hyperalert, sometimes

racing pulse, not sweating though -- the hyperness is not as bad as it used to

be. I've cleared RT3 already, and a month ago, my sleep seemed to be improving

-- I'd wake up at 5 instead of at my normal 3 am, but this recent development is

not fun -- trying to find ways to put myself back to sleep is a challenge. My

husband says I should go work out and get myself tired out, but that's not what

the prevailing advice is here.

As long as I have hopes the BP will come under control with Florinef, I will try

to keep calm about it.

Sex hormones are fine -- something my naturopath has been working with for 2-3

years. If anything they are on the high side.

and was at  4 <range <=21 >typically if you have low aldo you crave a lot of

salt and have BP issues.

Aldosterone is what regulates sodium and potassium.

I was passing out a lot if I got up fast from sleeping, especially when my ferritin was in the single digits... Even now I have to sit up for a bit before standing. It has gotten better though and I am sure I need to continue to increase the florinef, most need a full tab at least but you have to raise it slowly.

42.5mg of isocort? How many tabs is that? I opted against the isocort due to potential allergy issues with the other ingredients.

I wake up exhausted... drag myself around for a few hours... tired and miserable until 6pm and then don't want to go to bed... yeay low cortisol! I also wake up a lot during the night, sweat horribly.... not sure how to fix that.

Working out... not recommended unfortunately. I seriously miss it! I used to work out religiously...

I am waiting on blood work to see if I have an RT3 issue or not and have to repeat my iron panel to see if that is actually a problem. Came back high-ish with really low ferritin, but now I am learning it can be pernicious anemia? Why not... just keep adding things I guess! I have really poor digestion and several autoimmune issues so it wouldn't surprise me.

Well HC and florinef can both lower sex hormones so maybe they will become more balanced? I need to have mine checked.

Some people develope higher BP with florinef so definitely monitor it. Physicals aren't always the best place to monitor your BP though, especially if you get nervous/excited like me. I have BP 100/60, 90/50 at times but usually normal BP at the doc since I get all flustered. Once it was 100/40 at the doc though :P felt like a wet noodle that day!

I've heard I need a quarter tab Florinef and raise by a quarter weekly.

Correct? I promise I'll watch BP -- finally went and bought a monitor.

I take 27 per day. My naturopath can't prescribe HC and I can readily get

Isocort, so that's what I've done and the naturopath wasn't worried about

allergies, so I've continued as is -- but I will be glad to get actual HC, if it

EVER comes!

I don't wake up that tired, which is the weird thing. I guess it says something

about my RT3 being cleared and being something close to the right dose HC. I

don't usually feel good all day long, but usually some part of every day.

Pernicious anemia. I hope not. You already have your hands full.

I AM tired now and heading to bed soon here on the West Coast...

Good night,

Yep you need to start with 1/4 tab and raise every 7-10 days. Checking sodium/potassium levels along the way. I have needed to really up the potassium now. I am taking 40meq split 3x through the day. Both HC and florinef really lower potassium. Before I started the florinef I was having major issues with salt wasting so my potassium was high intracellularly I think as I couldn't tolerate taking any extra.

You can get HC online without a script <thats what I had to do> so don't feel you are totally stuck if that is the route you want to.

I talked to Birrdyy and she recommended I not take a bedtime dose of HC, tried that last night and actually woke up this morning feeling awake! I really hope that will continue! Was nice not to feel like I was full of lead!

I think the iron issues are due to autoimmune trouble being active. I am taking a good B12 supplement now so hopefully that will sort it self out.

I am exhausted! Had to get up at 5am for work today yuk!

I ordered Florinef and K Dur and Cortef the same day two weeks ago. So far the

K Dur has come BUT am still using the OTC potassium I have until F and C come.

I'm not very patient in the waiting. I guess blood tests every couple weeks

while on Florinef? Or just at the beginning?

No HC at night. Perhaps I'll try that tonight -- heading to bed soon.

What job is making you get up at 5 am? Hope it's not a regular thing!

I think once you are on a set dose you can just check the electrolytes periodically. I hate waiting as well :P

I am feeling better without the bedtime HC so definitely worth a try!

I am doing temp dental hygiene work and had to be at an office at 8am. I take forever in the morning so need a few hours to get myself together and feed my pets :(

I ordered Florinef and K Dur and Cortef the same day two weeks ago. So far the K Dur has come BUT am still using the OTC potassium I have until F and C come. I'm not very patient in the waiting. I guess blood tests every couple weeks while on Florinef? Or just at the beginning? No HC at night. Perhaps I'll try that tonight -- heading to bed soon. What job is making you get up at 5 am? Kitty,

Woo hoo! Florinef, Cortef, and Celtic sea salt all came the same day! Took

about three weeks to get them and I've been needing them twice that long. I'm

going to have to make sure I work on the six months' stock idea.

Did you drop your HC when you started Florinef? I'm wondering about that. Will

symptoms tell me and if so, what should I be looking out for? I took 1/4

Florinef (it came this morning) and it seems I had more endurance and no

headache yet. I know, I know, one dose is not a reliable indication of what is

to be, but I'm grateful for no headache/migraine, since I'm prone.

I hear needing the time in the morning to get ready -- if not, the whole day is

a mess. Just take care of yourself,

Jeanne

Hi Jeanne

I haven't decreased my HC yet but think I will try to soon. I am gaining a bit of weight and feel more hungry at night. I am not at a full tab of florinef yet though, due to increase again this weekend which will put me at 1 tab then I can decide if it is time to decrease HC. I think if you need to decrease HC you will start to get the high cortisol symptoms, increased appetite/thirst, weight gain especially around face, back of neck, belly, thighs, stretch marks, red face etc. http://faqhelp.webs.com/hchydrocortisone.htm

I think temps are super important as well. Have you been doing them?

I felt a difference immediately with the florinef as well. Not everyone experiences that. I knew it was time to increase since some of the symptoms started to come back after maybe 5 days. I didn't start to really need potassium until I got to 3/4 tab though. I also have bad headaches without the florinef, pretty much gone now :D

I have 12 pets right now, 4 skunks, 7 ferrets, and 2 cats. One cat and one ferret need special care and all need food prepared twice a day <I try to feed a wholistic diet to them as well> and between that, showering, eating etc. I need a considerable amount of time :P I know all of my own doing but the pets were here before I started getting really sick.... so have to make allowances :D

I hope you will continue to feel better! Remember to keep an eye on your potassium levels. For me low potassium showed as different sort of headache-more like pressure, muscle pain/weakness in my legs, fatigue, pounding heart... You will need it as time goes on, have you ordered any?

I just started florinef as well and I need to get my sodium and potassium

tested, but I am wondering if I should stop taking florinef for a few days

beofre the test? I am supposed to lay off salt the day before, too, right?

Thanks

Aldosterone is what regulates sodium and potassium.

You just can't take the potassium, florinef, or salt the day of the test. Aldosterone testing is the only one you have to stop salt for 24 hours.

Oh whew. That is good news.

Kitty, one more question. I have some upper leg cramps since starting florinef.

Does that mean my potassium is probably low?

Thanks

Yep that is how my legs felt. Not quite a charlie horse but a tight pain. I also felt very weak, and my heart was pounding a lot. Florinef really lowers potassium as does HC.

I am up to 40meq. I try to split it 3x a day so 20meq at breakfast, 10 at lunch and 10 at dinner. I also take 1 tablespoon of molasses in the morning which is around 10meq of potassium as well. Birrdyy from the adrenal group recommends I take at least 50meq of potassium once I get to 1 tab of florinef. I also eat 1/2 a banana for breakfast and usually 1 potato a day <I am GF like most here so not really any carbs in the way of grains>

Hi Kitty

Thanks for all of the information. It is really helpful because I recently

started florinef and I have a lot of questions. One thing I notice is that in

the afternoon I feel like the florinef might be wearing off because I get a

headache. Could that be true? Do you dose twoce a day?

Thanks

Liz

I only dose once a day. I was having the same thing when I was on a lower dose. I am at 3/4 tab and am not really having headaches now, if I do it is late day/evening. I am due to go to a full tab this sunday so will increase my potassium again to 50meq. Some people dose twice a day but Birrdyy recommended I wait until I was at a full tab before trying that. How much are you taking so far?

Hi Kitty

I started at 1/4 tablet, and now I am doing that twice a day. How did you know

to raise your dose? Do you have any side effects aside from the headache when it

wears off?

I read somewhere it makes you more prone to infection, but I don't know if it is

simply like cortef, which I am on as well, because it is a steroid. I have an

awful cold now and I am wondering if the florinef is making it worse.

Thanks

Liz

I was just raising my dose since the normal dose needed is 1 tab. I was getting low sodium symptoms as it got time to increase the dose, irritable, swelling, headache, angry, increased thirst/salt need, etc. My aldosterone was really low, came back at 4 <range <=21 > so I REALLY needed it!

It will make you prone to infection just like HC can but usually this happens at much higher doses. I haven't had any trouble with healing, in fact things seem to heal better now on the HC than before.

I am colder now with the florinef. Low aldosterone causes falsely high temps. I forget the whole explination... but my temps are now averaging 97.8 from 98.3.

HC will cause you to become more hypothyroid since cortisol allows you to use your T3. I have become EXTREMELY hypothyroid since starting the HC and it definitely got worse on the florinef. I guess everything starts to get metabolized better making us need more. I also just found out I have an RT3 issue so am now on just T3 so that will take a bit to sort out.

I am assuming you have an RT3 issue as well being here, what are you taking? Maybe it is time to increase?
