I have read that the stuff in spirilina, yeast etc., though an analogue of cobalamin, is not not the same -- and is not nutritionally equivalent for humans. (just now don't have the reference for that --might be wrong - I'm very open minded) Further, Brody in Nutritional Biochemisty also aserts that : " The vitamin is present in animal products such as meat, poultry, milk and fish, but is not present in plant products or in yeast. " I just consulted three other recent nutrition texts and they all categorical state that B12 is not found in plants. Perhaps fermentation (microbial)can develop B12 on plant foods. I continue to counsel vegans to supplement consciously, especially during their child producing years. A b12 deficiency might not be apparent in vegan woman, but can be devastating to fetus or nursing baby. Liz
