Guest guest
My lab's normal range is 10 - 291. I have been as low as 12, was declared by my insurance co. to be " normal " and not in need of iron IVs, but actually felt like death warmed over. I think the range they use to determine " normal " ferritin stinks. I notice that the " normal " ferritin range they gave you is different than mine...I am sorry but I am not familiar with UK ferritin lab ranges, so can't give you a specific answer about your own level. I would say generally being at the top end of the range is better for us (especially for thyroid function) than the bottom end, regardless of what range they are using. Nick has never had an iron problem, but he does know how the UK health system works, so he may be able to help here. Can you go to a private doctor? Bet it would be pricey, kind of like the private-pay doctors here that don't accept health insurance. That's how I get my Venofer, gotta foot the whole bill myself - OUCH!!! But low ferritin was my obstacle so it had to be addressed. (Just let me and my wallet say OUCH one more time...) Don't know if it would do you any good to see a hematologist, he/she may possibly still call you normal and show you the door. Regarding my ferritin levels, last fall I was 28, and had just started to try to get rid of my RT3, so got two Venofer IV's, which brought me up to 79 (and in reasonably good shape to raise T3). Keep in mind this lab's so-called " normal " range is 10 - 291. Hope this helps. > > > > > > Hi Everyone, > > > > Im so sorry to send another message asking for help but I'm sitting in tears feeling incredibly helpless. > > > > > > > > I have very low ferritin levels and my GP has refused to give me Iron IV's > > > > > > > > So I bought bluebonnet iron and began taking it and got SEVERE stomach cramps and constipation.
