Roni,

Teva and brands of minocycline are the ones that have the best reviews.

You can ask your pharmacy to order in one of these brands if they carry a

different generic.

Hi Everyone:

effective? I know someone was compiling a list documenting these meds and now I

can't find it.

thanks!

Roni.

Please see my web page http://www.tmgp.com/minocin.htm.

Sorry, that page has not been updated since 4/15/09. More feedback is

needed. I will gladly add inputs for generic minocyclines by

different manufacturers if you email me. If you don't know the name

of the manufacturer, please ask your pharmacist.

Thought I would post this which may help explain your dilemna. (??)

Pelleted Minocin was developed by Lederle Labs, which became ESI

Lederle, which was acquired by Wyeth-Ayerst Laboratories, which then

changed its name to simply Wyeth. Minocin by Lederle, ESI Lederle and

Wyeth were all the same thing.

Prior to September 2001, Lederle also sold its Minocin as a generic

minocycline at a lower cost, which was $70.00 per hundred 100 mg

capsules at Wal Mart. Regrettably, in September 2001, Lederle stopped

selling its generic.

In February 2006, Wyeth sold or licensed its Minocin brand name in the

USA to Triax Pharmaceuticals. Triax then raised the USA list price to

$1,020.80 for one hundred 100 mg capsules, or $10.21 per 100 mg capsule.

The Triax Minocin is still being manufactured by Lederle / Wyeth, so

it's the real thing.

Sometime in 2005 or 2006, Wyeth also sold or licensed its Minocin

product line to Stiefel Canada, Inc., which now continues to sell brand

name Minocin. This Minocin is pelleted and appears to be identical to

the original Lederle product, except for the labeling of the capsules. A

brief survey of Canadian pharmacies as of 4/15/09 finds the following

prices ranging from $1.47 to $2.12 per 100 mg capsule. Typically add $5

to $10 for shipping to the USA. Always phone the pharmacy first to

verify that you will be receiving Minocin by Stiefel or by Wyeth-Ayerst.

Thought I would share this little bit of info (not that I have much on

mino...lol) it may help solve your dilemna ??

Low-Cost Brand Name Minocin in Canada

Sometime in 2005 or 2006, Wyeth also sold or licensed its Minocin product line

Hi everyone,

In reading this thread I just wondered ,, are your generic medicines so

different where you are from the brand name ones or is it a problem like we have

here where it is not the drug itself that is different but the fillers used in

the production of the tablets that are different? (ie our generic brand

medications are guaranteed to be 0.001% same drug & quantity of drug per

tablet/capsule)

The only information I have is :

Teva and generic minocycline always comes up top & gets the thumbs up

here from people I know who use mino in the US. Anyone taking it will just have

to check around different pharmacies to see if they supply these - some do, some

don't - but some will also order in certain ones, if requested.

Ranbaxy (made in India) is a definite no-no...had FDA warnings of producing

inferior generics that were not up to regulation standards.

Brand Wyeth Minocin here in the US (the pelleted variety distributed thru

Triax)is not usually covered by most insurances (waaaaayyy too expensive), so

people will often buy the brand from

http://www.buylowdrugs.com/rx-drugs/Minocin.php an online pharmacy in Canada.

It's $165.00 for a hundred count and, if she orders these online, she should

write " 100mg caps Stiefel brand Minocin (pelleted caps only) " in the medication

line of the order form just like that so they don't send the powered brand

version instead, both of which come in the same two-toned orange/indigo capsule.

Takes 2 to 3 weeks from placing faxed order for the Minocin to arrive from

Canada, so need to stay on top of re-ordering in advance,so you don't run out.

Like Triax in the US, Stiefel in Canada also got distribution rights from

Wyeth,so it's exactly the same formulation as the Minocin in the US (which is in

a peagreen-coloured capsule with one transluscent end).

Hi,

I too, get my minocin from Canada and I live in Michigan. I began about two

years ago...it's Stiefel brand, pelletized and blue and orange. Same exact

thing as I had been getting for the 8 previous yrs here. I pay about $165,

much much less expensive than I'd have to pay at my pharmacy. When my

husband retired two yrs ago, the price went way up with the new medical

coverage, SO I checked it out from references here and it worked. Very easy and

I

purchase it from Universal Drug in Canada. Never had any issues with them.

Yes , they ask you to fax in your script and mine was good for about 4

refills. After that you just call and renew it till the script expires. I

use my credit card and that's it. S & H are free. Hope that helps.
