Guest guest
Hey Kathleen, I just don't know all that much about what is happening with the SHBG and the Testosterone. I really don't think my Dr. had a clue as to what to do either. She told me that my SHBG was elevated due to the T3 only but I have been using some form of testosterone for three years now and that was during a good two year period when I was on T4 as well. She also told me she would do some research and get back with me and that was two weeks ago. My labs are always on the high side when I am using some form of the hormone unless it is time for my pellets to be re-implanted, last Testosterone Free was 7.5 (0.0-2.2). My serum Testosterone was 319 (6-82). I have no symptoms of having too much testosterone, quite the opposite. No problems with excess hair growth, lowered voice, acne, etc, etc. I ask for my SHBG to be tested because one of the other ladies suggested I have it done to see if maybe my testosterone was binding. My SHBG was 111.3 (26.1-110.0) so obviously it's binding. I don't know how off topic this is and I'm not sure that Val would approve of my naming a product. I just don't want to cross any lines. The product does seem to be helping though. I have ordered another product to go along with this current one so we will just have to see. I will also have labs redone early May so that will tell me whether the SHBG is decreasing. I can email you privately if you wish. Just let me know. Oh, I stopped my Dhea...it was causing terrible abdominal bloating. I still use estrogen and progesterone and those levels are perfect. ,My SHBG went up a bit past the range when I was using testo gel and DHEA, so I don't know if it went higher from estrogen (which also went too high) or from the Testo, but by using enough testo gel I am able to get a free testo of 4. So my total T looks high since so much is bound up, but my free Testo is good. What supplments are you using to get SHBG down, may I ask? I had also wondered about how to free up more Testo. The practitioner who gives me the testo was wondering also, but didn't know how to get SHBG down. Thanks!Kathleen>> Yes, we tested my testosterone and it was quite low.   Oh, and I am female.  I have tried everything to help.  I tried creams, gels, orals and have not had any success in the way that I feel.  So we then tested my SHBG because I actually have over the top testosterone lab levels but I do not feel any benefits of the hormone. I get testosterone pellet implantation.   My SHBG levels were elevated a little over top range. I'm pretty sure that a regimen of T3 only causes the levels of SHBG to go higher which actually will limit the free testosterone that is available because it binds to the SHBG.  I think this is correct.  Val would know for sure and I hope that I'm speaking correct.  Anyway, to my knowledge there is some truth to the T3 only causing an elevated SHBG which in turn will inhibit your free testosterone.  I am experimenting with some supplements that are supposed to help lower this SHBG and possibly allow the> free testosterone to be more available to my body.   But, even with all of this going on I do not think I could ever go back to any additional T4 now that I have been on T3 only. I just have to find other ways to get past this elevated SHBG.> > > > > > Date: Wednesday, March 31, 2010, 7:58 PM> > >  > > > > I saw on the sttm site in the mens section that T3 only binds free testosterone. Guest guest
JUst peeking in and as I have done some research into this recently I will post what I have learned. ALL thyroid when high can cause SHBG to go up, So does high Growth Hormone whihc is porbably how thyroid raises it. High SHBG is a solid indicator of GOOD tissue levels of thyriod. If your FREE testosterone is stil too low on T3 only, look to CORTISOL. High cortisol reduces free testosterone and estrogen as well. You should also check your IGF-1 to see if it si high as if it is oyu are blaming the wrong homrone for high SHBG. -- http://nthadrenalsweb.org/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/ http://faqhelp.webs.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/RT3_T3/ http://www.thyroid-rt3.com/ http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HypoPets/ http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/

Guest guest
Hey Val! Glad to see you peeking in! I hope you are feeling better these days. Thank you very much for your words. I would love to read more into this when you have a chance to send it out. When I look back at thispast year with going on T3 only I was all the way up to 187.5 of SRT3. I then cleared the RT3, switched to Cytomel starting at 137.5 I have gradually decreased this dose until I am presently right around 81.25-87.5. I am feeling better than I have in years but I still have this lingering lower back pain and occasional weird foot pain...LOL, just one stupid foot. And the lack of weight loss. I have really wondered why I can't seem to shake these lingering symptoms since I feel I am so in tune with the thyroid now. Sooo, maybe there is more to it as far as the Testosterone, Cortisol, SHBG, IGF-1 and such. I had IGF-1 tested a few months back and I was fine but I will get it retested along with the other levels when I test in early May. I would really like to get to the bottom of everything. I had cortisol tested in February and it was good too...my adrenals seemed to have healed and were looking descent. I will also re-test saliva for the cortisol in May. I'm almost fine tuned, but just not quite there yet. If it is high IGF-1, then what is the solution to this?? I have been taking a product with "avena sativa" to lower my SHBG. I have also heard that "stinging nettle root" can be helpful. So, Im going to try this too before my next labs. Val, keep taking it easy and we all hope to see you back in full force soon. Guest guest
High IGF-1 i a marker for high Growth Hormones and Acromegaly. As with any hormone imbalance I am SURE there are differnt levels of too high and many that are not even noticed in literature yet, But a for fixing it, I have no clue, I have the opposite problme NO IGF-1! Guest guest
Can you email it to me as well? Re: Re: T3 only binds sex hormones??? To: RT3_T3yahoogroups (DOT) com Date: Thursday, April 1, 2010, 10:11 PM Hey Kathleen, I just don't know all that much about what is happening with the SHBG and the Testosterone. I still use estrogen and progesterone and those levels are perfect. , My SHBG went up a bit past the range when I was using testo gel and DHEA, so I don't know if it went higher from estrogen (which also went too high) or from the Testo, but by using enough testo gel I am able to get a free testo of 4.
