My youngest was allergic to corn solids so we used tapioca (raw) instead of the cornstarch. It worked just as well. You can mix the powder of either in yogurt, pudding, ice cream or anything that is in their diet. We used only low sugar products for this to avoid a reactive hypoglycemia. Guest guest
Cornstarch is used as a long term sugar to help with night time fasts. It is slowly metabolized and can maintain an adequate supply of sugar/energy for up to 6 - 8 hours. For kids that have trouble going that long in between feeds, it works well. It was first used in kids/patients with glycogen storage disease. They don't have the ability to store enough glycogen to maintain their blood sugars thru the night time fast. In the early 90's some of the metabolic docs started using it in kids with mito, that had similar difficulties. For kids that are very responsive to frequent snacks, it may make a difference in how they start out their day. Jeannine
