Guest guest
>>>It radiated toward my back/upper shoulder. It was in fact very similar to when I had a gallbladder attack 5 years prior, but of course it couldn't be as my gallbladder is gone now. <<< Hi Cass, Only suggesting this as a possibility, but a few years back when I was doing liver flushing for gall stones and biliary attacks, I recall learning a bit about the potential post-operative complications from gall bladder removal. One of these complications being the nicking of the Sphincter of Oddi and/or the common bile duct when the gall bladder is removed. These surgical accidents are a more common occurance of the less invasive key-hole method, apparently, and people go in thinking their GB pain is going to be gone forever, only to be left with similar pain from this complication after the surgery. It's also quite common for this problem not to show up for some time after the op, sometimes years later...I think maybe after the scar tissue has had time to build up and cause a tightening of the spincter (that last part is only my speculation, though). Basically what happens is that the sphincter becomes scarred and too tight, not allowing the released bile fluids to escape into the upper digestive tract as they normally would do, so everything backs up....hence the bloating and pain similar to a GB attack and possible pancreatitits. As you researched, abx may well have exacerbated the problem, but only because the wastes aren't exiting properly and this can cause irritation in the upper digestive tract area. Don't lose hope with abx therapy just yet! If your spincter of oddi is the problem, they may be able to easily rectify it when you go in for your procedure and everything will settle down. Maybe just worth mentioning to your docs to see if they could look for this as a possible concern, even if just to rule it out, as sphincter of oddi inadequacy may not have been visible on the original ultrasound. Also, someone had a similar issue on the roadback site this past year and I don't recall them coming back to share the results of their doctor's investigations, but someone suggested that it may also be a herx-related issue. I guess you won't know this for sure until you rule everything else out, though. Wishing you well, Cass....keep the faith...this may just be a minor blip on the radar! Try doing a search on " complications of gall bladder surgery " with " spincter of oddi disfunction " ...you should be able to pull up some info that may ring some bells. Fingers crossed for you.
