Cost of Minocin and Arthritis Internet Registry

I saw my GP today for a 3 month check-in. She has been compliant in running the

tests I have requested and providing minocycline RX. At the pharmacy today, I

asked them what the cost would be for the name brand, Minocin for the 90-day

supply. The answer was shocking. With my insurance coverage, which is pretty

good in other situations, the cost of this prescription would have been $1400!

So I had to ask how much it would be without my insurance. $2100. So I politely

asked what brand of generic they carried. She came back and said for the 90-day

supply, the only generic brand she had enough of was " . " That is the brand

of my last round, so I was happy I could continue on the same brand that has

helped me so much.

The generic RX cost me $16. And actually, it would have been cheaper for me to

have gone to my grocery store pharmacy where it would have cost $12, without any

insurance.

Just thought this info might be of interest.

As part of the Arthritis Internet Registry, I have received forms to fill out

and return about the ulcer I developed from sucking down so many aspirin at the

start of my RA symptoms. And also a release form so they could verify with my

doctor that I have, indeed, been diagnosed with RA. My GP said she was fine with

me listing her on that contact form. I take that as confirmation from her on how

important she feels this registry is in increasing the medical community's

knowledge in effective treatments for rheumatic diseases.
