Guest guest
I made an appt two weeks ago to see about having a venofer done. My ferritin is 25 and couldn't increase my T3. Been taking iron supps for two weeks now. I mailed him a letter explaining my situation, medical references to back it up etc... Waited on him for over an hour. Then he looks at my lab work, says I am in range. Won't give me an IV because I am not anemic and if he did he would get into trouble for doing it since I am in range. He goes on and on about iron poisoning. He says I can take all the iron supplements I need and my body will determine how much it will need. But an IV will hurt this and that. Then he wanted to do another iron panel on me. I told him I was taking iron supps but he said it would be okay. I asked him if he read any of the medical references. He said no, he might this weekend. I waited in the exam room, then decided I was not going to do his orders of blood work, I was not going to subject myself to this. I walked out, paid my visit and left. I trust what my body is telling me, not him or his schooling. I felt like crying, I almost did, but I will not waste a tear on this. I am tired of feeling hypo and I know my body wants T3, but with low ferritin I can't. I just found out too I put on another 5lbs, so now I am 15 lbs overweight. I was on the other extreme underweight by 10 lbs. That was adrenals, now it is thyroid. I need to get his ferritin up. If you live in Houston avoid Dr. Sanford, he won't help you if you have low ferritin. He will only give an IV if you are already anemic and you are craving ice like an addict. Hum...like most doctors will treat your adrenals once you have addisons. Today was a bad doctor visit for me. I will have to test my ferritin in about two weeks it will be a month. What labs does this? I hope the price is reasonable.

Guest guest
I should of been better prepared. I forgot to bring a bag of ice and sucked on it like an addict and ask him why am I doing this? You don't have to crave ice to be anemic or have very low iron. When I was in my 20's I became anemic because a doctor gave me meds that caused my period to last 30 days. I was having faiting spells, dizzy all the time, very, very weak. Went to my ob/gyn she ran a test and told me I was anemic. I never craved ice, never. > > I made an appt two weeks ago to see about having a venofer done. My ferritin is 25 and couldn't increase my T3. Guest guest
Sorry you had such a bad visit! They are always so hard You can get ferritin tested cheaply https://econolabs.com/tests/search.php I used to chew ice as a teenager but didn't know it was a ferritin thing. At one point my ferritin was TWO... waiting on tests now to see how it looks these days. You can't tolerate any T3 at all? Guest guest
I tolerate a small dose of T3. I use cytomel and dose it every 2 hours. 7.5 7.5 5 5 5 and 5 at bedtime. I feel the hypo growing more, I may see if I can add another 2.5 to the 3rd timing. I am hoping supplementing iron will help if I do increase this tiny bit. I am hoping if I am lucky, the iron supps will raise me quick. > > > > I made an appt two weeks ago to see about having a venofer done. My ferritin is 25 and couldn't increase my T3. Guest guest
Are you on HC? That will make you more hypo as you are able to utilize more of the thyroid hormones. I am really hypo at this point now due to low cortisol issues, and lord knows what else It is such a slow journey! Guest guest
Yes I am on HC. 10 10 7.5 7.5 5-bedtime It is a very long journey. Been on HC for almost 2 years. My cortisol burden was a 11. Will take time for time to recover, but I am slowly progressing. > > > > > > I made an appt two weeks ago to see about having a venofer done. My ferritin is 25 and couldn't increase my T3.
