Guest guest
When I ask my doctor to do an RT3 what do I tell him as to why and what difference will it make? How is the results of that test to be used? Does the prescribing of cytomel give any insight as to how knowledgeable he is in contrast to had he given me Synthroid? I have been reading this site and trying to learn. It helps me when the question is left so that I know what the answer means. It's a big subject. Thanks. Guest guest
If the ratio of FT3/RT3 is too low(you divide the Free T3 by the RT3 and it should be 20 or higher) you need to take JUST T3 which cannto make more RT3 so it wil change the ratio. Taking JUST T4 makes this ratio worse as RT3 promotes T4 to convert to MORE Rt3 and T4 is the prohormone for RT3. -- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/RT3_T3/ http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HypoPets/
Guest guest
After 3 months on T3 only.... TSH.....less than 0.01 U/L (0.4-4) FT4.....less than 5 pmol/L (9-24)*below range FT3..............23 pmol/L (2.6-6.6) *VERY elevated TPOAb....less than 1 IU/mL (less than 5.6) TGAb.............5.1 IU/mL (less than 4.1) *elevated positive Abs RT3.....less than 39 pmol/L (170-450) *basically undetectable As per above you can see both Ft4 & Rt3 were a " less than " result. In other words my Lab can only detect Ft4 & Rt3 over a certain number. So I would NEVER know if either were Zero because the tests aren't sensitive enough. We don't even test TSH, Rt3, Ft4 anymore. I have now been on T3 only since early Sept'08. By the way YES I did go Hyper within 3 weeks of above test. Was on 150mcg T3 Tertroxin stopped for a day then reduced to 80mcg. I now am on 80-100mcg maintenance dose & doing very well. Lethal Lee > > Anyone have an answer to the questions posed in original post. Guest guest
Hi Suzanne, The T3 that you are taking won't be converted to RT3. RT3 is created by conversion from the T4 hormone. It might help to understand a bit of how RT3 is made. There's some great information at http://thyroid-rt3.com/whatis.htm. T4 is a storage hormone that our body makes. It's biologically inactive - our bodies can't directly use it. When our body needs active thyroid hormone, it converts T4 into T3 by removing one iodine atom. The body also makes a little RT3, but the amount and proportion are not significant enough to cause an issue. When we have an issue with RT3 is when the body is not converting enough T4 to the active form of T3. The RT3 actually blocks our the receptors on our cells from getting any T3 hormone. The reason we take T3 to treat this issue is so that the thyroid is suppressed from making any T4, thereby eliminating the conversion of T4 to RT3. By increasing the dose of T3 to make up for the decreasing levels in our body, we give our body the thyroid hormone that it needs. This allows our body to burn through the RT3 and clear both the blood and the receptors - which takes about 12 to 15 weeks. Hope this is helpful. Subject: Re: rt3To: RT3_T3 Date: Sunday, April 25, 2010, 9:46 PM Ok, so it's NOT possible the t3 I am taking will turn into rt3 because of high cortisol? Am I safe to assume rt3 happens during the t4/t3 conversion? With nothing there to MAKE RT3 your body has to use the T3.-- http://nthadrenalsw eb.org/http://health. groups.yahoo. com/group/ NaturalThyroidHo rmonesADRENALS/http://faqhelp. webs.com/http://health. groups.yahoo. com/group/ RT3_T3/http://www.thyroid- rt3.com/http://groups. yahoo.com/ group/HypoPets/http://www.stopthet hyroidmadness. com/
