Guest guest
Hi All, I have a regular once every 4 months visit with my endo next Friday. I go to the town he is on Monday to get blood drawn, then I see him on Friday. I called to request a RT3 test to be run on it and he refused! He told his secretary that " he was not happy that I requested that " ! As though I'm worried about his happiness! I guess it'll make him happy to make me drive another 30 miles to go get another blood test on another day after we have our appointment. Honestly I can't understand that reasoning. I think it may be because he has no idea of what this is and why it may be necessary so he's putting me off of it. I do expect I'll get a wrist-slap too for taking myself off of Naturethroid and beginning Cytomel on my own (well, with Dr. Peatfield's help and the help of this group). Any encouragements for me as I prepare to see him next week? I'm taking 20 mcg T3 in divided doses (experimenting with 3 to 4 times daily) now and I like how it helps me. It's similar to the initial feelings I had when I first started Naturethroid and got the T3 " lift " . However, I never could get over 3/4 - 1 grain of it; I'd start developing muscle and joint pain. Thanks for any commesurating with me. I know many of you have had a much more difficult time with endos/GPs....Deborah
Guest guest
Dear Deborah, You can try Genova Diagnostics for an RT3 test. Get rid of your endo, it is his job to make your life better and not yours to make him happy. Hurt feelings are not professional. Anyway, he is obviously ignorant about T3 and RT3 and frightened about the situation escaping his control. I let a doctor treat me with T4 for 5 years because I thought I should do what the doctor said and not mess with things I did not understand. I suffered uselessly and my health had deteriorated seriously because of it. I really regret it now. It's stolen nearly 10 years of my life. I started taking things into my own hands and I have now found a GP who accepts this. He won't prescribe any T3 or HC for me (although in the long run with some good lab results I might beable to convince him to change his mind). However, this doctor does prescribe all the basic lab work I need which saves me quite a lot of money. And he has seen the improvement in my health and well being. I can also discuss any risks I might be taking because he tells me what to watch out for. I think it is easier to get a doctor on board AFTER you have decided what you want and gone ahead and taken an initiative and got yourself armed with lab results. Since they all go by things like lab results and blood pressure, if you start to get better they can not ignore this. And taking an initiative does not necessarily mean that you are reckless. A " perceived " risk can be measured. And you do not have to do anything irreversible. Go ahead and arm yourself with some lab results and see if you can find a doctor who will at least listen and with whom you can discuss the worries you have. There is absolutely no risk involved there (apart from hurt feelings) Another thing I found was that when I started to feel better after changing treatment, it was a lot easier to stop doctors pushing me around with their emotional issues! Good luck with whatever you decide. MacGilchrist > > Hi All, > > I have a regular once every 4 months visit with my endo next Friday. Guest guest
I'm not sure how it is in the UK, but in the US, one can just order various tests online and they are not really that expensive. In my experience, they are not more than the " allowed " cost from my insurance company (which I have to pay until I meet my deductible.) Also, I have MANY times just written a test I wanted on the lab req from the doc myself, lol! I'm sure some docs would get mad if you did that, but you'd have your results and could move on to a new doctor if they fired you for doing that. Again, I don't know how this works in the UK, if you even get to see the lab req, etc. Kathleen > > >Honestly I can't understand that reasoning. Guest guest
I kind of feel that way - you’ve hit the nail on the head, I think.
