Hi there,

It can get pretty quiet here in the evenings and I imagine you are eager to hear

some response.

Check out this website for adrenal support info. It MAY be when you tried HC

you were not on enough. I know I started out on a small dose and like many

others, it made me feel jittery and awful. It may be the same for you. Once I

got on the right dosage it made all the difference.

my R-T3 and said it was very high as is my T4. I'm sorry I don't have the exact

numbers because I failed to get a copy (my bad). My TSH is low but my temps tend

to stay in the 96-97 range accompanied by all the other low thyroid symptoms. I

feel pretty bad.

2009 had a cortisol burden of 5 in a range of 23-42. I talked to a few people in

the adrenal group and all said I needed to get on HC immediately. I tried but it

made me feel terrible...all jittery and surreal. It felt like I was doing damage

to my adrenals rather then helping them. I consulted with Dr. Lam on the phone

and he put me on a protocol of supplements which seemed to help to a certain

degree. I had my labs redone about a month ago and they have improved

tremendously but still way too low: cortisol burden of 20 in a range of 23-42

but the curve is a normal curve rather than flat lined. It hugs the bottom or

drops just below the normal curve so I'm thankful for that.

out of my cells if I can't tolerate any T-3 due to low cortisol and I can't fix

the low cortisol problem due to lack of tolerance to that as well? Has anyone

ever had this problem?

This seems way too high to me but two different doctors have dismissed it as

normal. Also I've been told I have a IGG reaction of 20 to gluten and have taken

myself off of that. I've come down with multiple allergies this year and have

had chronic nasal swelling and sticky mucus since before Christmas which have

made sleeping really challenging. None of this is helping my adrenals, I'm sure.

Jeanne, that was nice of you to reply. I've been to STTM site in the past but

it's been a while so it would probably be helpful to refresh my memory. My body

is so reactive to stimulants that the thought of taking a large dose scares me.

But maybe that is what I need. I was taking 5 in the morning 5 at noon and then

feeling so bad that I couldn't make myself take any more for the day. I tried

this for several days in a row and just felt like I was killing my adrenals. I

do think there is something not right going on in my body that maybe the testing

will reveal but you could be right...maybe I just need to find a higher dosage

that takes care of my adrenals. Thanks for your input!

I just recently started HC, about 2 weeks ago. Val (owner of the adrenal group) said to start on 30mg of HC because she said that by ramping up that people were having more problems. Our body needs the higher dose, and does better with starting at the 30 mg. I started the 30 mg right away and didn't really have any problems. I actually am having times where I feel like I have energy and more "normal". My mom has noticed that I am calmer and not snapping at my kids like I was. She said I am much more patient with them and more like my old self. So that is reassuring after just 2 weeks. Getting up isn't quite as hard as it was and I am dealing with stress a little better.

Hope that the 30 mg is what you need!

Hi Terri,

Do you mind telling me how you dosed the 30mg? Did you ever have a problem with

a lower dose? That's encouraging to hear how normal you feel.

Hello and welcome, you sounds like you've got severe adrenal issues

and then some RT3 issues as well.

The normal way out of these is to take the " 4 times a day " adrenal

saliva test to see what your profile is through the day and post the

results here, or better still in the adrenal group

http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/

Where some experienced people will suggest a starting dose of HC. Too

small a starting dose makes it worse.

Before you start that you will need to drop the level of thyroid meds

you are on for a couple of weeks as you could otherwise " suddenly

release " some hormone that's been pooling in your blood.

Before you start taking the HC do some temperature checks as per the

first link on this page

http://thyroid-rt3.com/adrenals.htm

and keep taking these " 3 times a day " temperatures as you start the

HC. The stability of those temperatures is your indicator that you are

on the right amount of HC.

You can then swap onto T3 only in place of the T4 and start to get rid

of the RT3.

After about 16 weeks you should feel a LOT better and be into the fine

tuning stage where you are looking at things like sex hormone levels.

Once you have the RT3 reduced and are feeling well you may be able to

wean off the HC is a year or so as the stress on your adrenals will be

reduced and they will be rested and may recover, some people have

found this happen.

Good luck and feel free to ask as many questions as you need to.

Nick

, many people have problems wiht too low a dose of HC. You need

ot ask these questions in the adrenals group which I will be opening to

posts this AM. We have been closed for a week due to moderator break.

Your reaction is VERY ocmmon when adrenals are that bad and you take too

low a dose.

Thanks Nick and ,

I will post to the adrenal group later today. I don't have my exact numbers for

my cortisol test but it was done about a month ago-saliva four times a day. The

cortisol burden for the day was 20 and it hugged the lower curve of normal so I

can probably guestimate what the numbers were pretty accurately. I would say 13

- 4 - 2 - 1. I can ask for a copy of the lab next time I go in. Nick, you

brought up the idea of cutting down on my thyroid meds for a few weeks before

starting HC. I'd like to explore that idea. How much do I cut them by and how

soon can I start the HC. I'm starting a new job in a week and would really like

to be able to keep it. The way I feel now, it might be a problem. Maybe the

adrenal group will be better able to answer that question.

I'm familiar with the temperature charting and will start that right away.

Thanks for both of your input.
