Hi everyone, could someone take a look at these and tell me what they think. These labs belong to a family member who is having trouble and suspected thyroid (dr. didn't run free t3). Looks like her liver could be having some trouble, but I don't know enough about these types of labs to give her any advice. She is taking an anti-depressant, had gallbladder removed in her late 30's, is now in early 40's.

Thanks so much, S

Ok here’s a quick lowdown from what I can read:

free t4 1.04 (.89-1.79)

TSH is 1.218

Potassium 4.3

Sodium 138 (think this is right but can’t see if there is a decimal or not)

ALT 87 (normal range is 7-35)

AST 61 (normal range is 18-43)

Albumin 4.7 (normal is 4.0-8.0)

Bilirubin 9.7 ( I really can’t read the first number and not sure if it is a 9 or not.)

Alkaline Phosphate 227 (40-144)

Her T4 is too lwo and yes she has some bad liver issues. The Bilirubin

range would be helpful and determine the seriousness of the problem btu

just on these she needs to see a specialist pronto.

I had a similar situation a few months ago, high ast and high alt, 75 and 68

respectively. My doc ordered an abdominal sonogram. They said I had a fatty

liver. I began to take milk thistle (an herbal supplement)and when I retested

four weeks later my numbers had gone done to normal.

Interesting. I have had high liver enzymes off and on for 20 years. Last year I

went to a liver specialist and had a abdominal sonogram which showed nothing. He

then did a liver biopsy, which was normal. He then did an upper endoscopy with a

stomach and upper intestine biopsy, which was normal and he said ruled out

Celiac disease. After all of that and having high enzymes all summer the next

test they ran was normal. I have since had another test and they are elevated

again.

I wonder if I should try the milk thistle. What is it supposed to do?

If you google milk thistle you will see it is used to detoxify/cleanse the

liver.
