>>>>Suez, you are correct to a point.

*** " Suez " ??? As in 'canal'? Sheesh, now I've been called just about

everything on some email list or another. LOL Not that it's a big deal, but

my name is " Suze " pronounced " Sooz " rhymes with cruise, snooze and schmooze,

if that's a word :)

>>>>Farmers have been told for 60 years their products are worthless, and

paid

accordingly. The major consulting done by extension and feed companies is

how to

be efficient. Not looking at the animals true need of evolution.

***Yeh, I know, profit is the goal, not nutrition.

>>>Farmers are not the cause of the food you see in the commercial stores,

processors are the cause, government and the cheap food scam, which your

1935

food dollar is now directed at the Medical Industry, and farmers are getting

a

bum rap for the practices they have had top implement just to feed there own

families, and do the thing they were placed on the earth to do. If you want

to

yell at someone for the way the animals are kept today, take the way back

machine to the depression, thats the last time that farmers actually were

paid

what their efforts were worth, and the consuming public was jealous that

farmers

weathered the depression rather well.

***Well I surely hope my post on organic standards did not seem like I was

yelling at anybody. I'm not *blaming* anyone - just describing two different

local farms and the care of the animals. To give you a little more

background, I have been buying from the old organic farmer for about 8

months now and I like and trust her very much. I don't buy from her just

because her meat is organic, but rather that it is local, I know and trust

her, it's organically raised, it tastes great, it's pastured in season, she

knows I buy a lot of it for my dogs but doesn't bat an eye (like some other

farmers I've bought from) and she's always forthcoming with information when

I bombard her with questions. I couldn't ask for better than that!

However, I did have a reality check when picking up my meat/bones/organs

yesterday. She took me into the barn where the goats and steer are kept. The

goats' area seemed reasonable in size and they had a couple of doors to

outdoor pens so they could come and go as they pleased. The steer however

had a smaller area that was unfortunately deep in manure. Apparently, the

guy who usually shovels it skipped a week. So it was pretty deep. When I

asked the farmer about it, she said, " well, would *you* like to shovel it? "

Haha! No, thanks, I told her. Although I could've brought a little home to

the dogs for probiotics and fiber :) But, I fully appreciate that she is 79

years old and running a farm, albeit a small one. She's been doing it for

years and may not be perfect, but does a good job. I appreciate the fact

that she's still in business despite all the crazy gov't regs that make

small farmers jump through hoops and despite the 'farm-unfriendly' community

of $200,000 -$300,000 homes that have sprung up around her. She has to get a

police escort once a month just to visit her spring (which feeds her farm),

which is on a neighbor's property that used to be a another farm. The

neighbor's got " No Trespassing " signs on every other tree on his property.

Life is definitely not easy for this farmer, yet she manages to put out a

good product (certified organic beef (pastured in season), veal (raised on

goat's milk) and various vegetables) despite the hardships.

So no, I'm not 'yelling' at anyone, and most certainly not at small family

farmers! I guess like every business, there are some I'm happy to support

with my dollars, and some I'm not.

>>>>Vote with your pocket book, buy direct, and yes organic is no longer

organic,

look at the farmer you buy from thats the only certification you need.

***That is my MO - talk to the farmer, look at the farm, try the food, when

ever possible :)
