Guest guest
Oh this is a good topic! My " favorite " diet (LOL) was when I was in GRADE SCHOOL! I was " forced " to join TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly). My classmate and I were the only people under the age of 30 who attended these meetings. If you weighed in less than your previous weight I got a rhinestone crown to wear for the two weeks. If you gained, you had to wear a small ceramic PIG around your neck at all times! My poor girlfriend was so dedicated she wore her pig one day to class and the humiliation she went through was enough to make me tell my Mom I would rather die than do that. What got my Mom to listen to me was that AFTER each meeting, the entire weigh in group went around to the corner restaurant for a huge dinner! This was all at the age of 10 years old! , if you read this post after 40 years, that means I can now apologize for telling this story. Guest guest
When I was in TOPS, there was an interesting ritual before every meeting. It was called " The Post Laxative Taking Wait in the Bathroom Line " !! It was so funny...all these women would take a laxative the night before the meeting, and there would be this long line at the bathroom before weighing in. Rather unpleasant if you needed to use the bathroom AFTER this ritual, I must add. Oh...and after the meeting there were arguments about WHICH pizza place to go to!! Guest guest
What really has me pissed off is that we all appear to have been overlooked for 40+ years for the Nobel Peace Prize! Do any of you realize how many starving children in third-world contries we have saved collectively because we " ate everything on our plate?? Guest guest
I never had any $$ to do these clubs. Also, I've always been vaguely suspicious of the diet industry, though I didn't know why until Fat Free became trendy. It even TASTED like sugar stuff. Wow or wow, did the nation ever fatten up after that! LOL! My tiny little boss, 109 on a fat day, blossomed to 125 on FF foods. The chronically skinny 20-somethings also gained. I was fresh postie and reading sugar g like crazy and so didn't eat the FF sweets and never liked pretzels much, ESPECIALLY sweet ones. Yuck. Guest guest
Wow. I missed that connection totally. And that was VERY big in my family. I bet some of the adults bearing children in those countries today are ones I saved by eating everything on my plate.
