Guest guest
I stopped all iron supplements end of January. I have not been taking any iron supplements since Feb. 1st. Seems the iron in the red meat works better for me than iron supplements. I was able to increase my t3 from 30 mcg to 80 mcg. since beginning/mid February. FEb. 4th my ferritin was 14 and March 24th it was 42; yippee hurray!!! > > Val, as you know I did not do well on the iron supplements and my ferritin has remained 14 for months at a time. > > For the past few weeks I've been eating red meat nearly every day and my ferritin came back this week: 42! This is the highest it has ever been! My platelets are up as well. > > My TSH is suppressed now on t3 only. > > Just wanted to share the good news! >

Guest guest
CONGRATULATIONS, that is so exciting. i'm working on ferritin, etc etc, and i'm just curious what exactly you were eating... what type meat, how much, and how often. also, do you know if eggs are iron-rich, and if spinach is helpful? i love eggs and a big leafy salad, but wonder if it helps my iron at all. so cool about your success:)) keep fighting the good fight;) > > > > Val, as you know I did not do well on the iron supplements and my ferritin has remained 14 for months at a time. > > > > For the past few weeks I've been eating red meat nearly every day and my ferritin came back this week: 42! I was able to increase my t3 from 30 mcg to 80 mcg. since beginning/mid February. I have read that the heme form of iron, as in red meat, is absorbed more readily. So taking heme iron, like in liver tabs, with your iron supplements makes them absorb better. In your case you didn't need them. I am a vegetarian so I used the liver tabs (I am not an insanely strict vegetarian) with chelated iron and the ferrous sulfate. Guest guest
Eggs did not do the trick for me. I consume lots of eggs and ferritin has remained low. I have been eating red meat nearly every day either in the form of beef or veal (not pre-cooked or smoked or from a take-out place; I buy fresh meat and cook it til it's soft). I'd estimate I eat roughly half a pound to a pound per day. And vitamin C along with it, to help wth the iron absorption. Best of luck to you. MOst people here seem to be able to increase ferritin with iron supplements. As an aside, my iron saturation was at the top of the range when I last checked in Feb. And yet the ferritin was a pithy 14. > > > > > > Val, as you know I did not do well on the iron supplements and my ferritin has remained 14 for months at a time. > > > > > > For the past few weeks I've been eating red meat nearly every day and my ferritin came back this week: 42!
