Guest guest
Hi , Yes, I have bluish spots here and there throughout my body. I made the mistake a few years ago when I went to Puerto Rico for several months to not cover up from the sun. I was really dark and now that I've started to lighten up again, it is not even. Some of my skin looks dark with white spots. I tell people I have white freckles. On parts of my legs I notice the bluish purple color. I know it is from the Minocin. But the trade off is worth it. I'd rather be alive and strong with spots than sick and weak with even colored skin. My advice, do cover up in the sun while on Minocin. If you tan easily like I do, the hyperpigmentation will develop really fast. It's not lack of oxygen....I' ve checked it and it's 98%.? For a while I thot I'd bruised my thumbs.? But it's also on most of my other fingers, only about half way up the nailbeds.? I'd been trying to figure out if it's some type of reaction to meds when it dawned on me it could be the minocin!? I haven't noticed any other blue spots or areas.? Do any of you have experience with the discoloratinon? ? I've been on it since 1999 without any trouble.? I take 7 doses a week on alternate days. M. Guest guest
Even if it looks funny, cover yourself up with a no infra-red umbrella. Suncreen is not enough. And don't let that even tan fool you. I, too, had an even tan and now I am speckled all over. Guest guest
Folks, the white spots are not caused by discoloration from Minocin. Nor is it vitaligo. The white spots are a fungal infection that many, MANY people have on their skin. The medical term for it is " Tinea-versicolor " . You can get the white spots to go away by using a product such as Body Drench's Wipe Out. You can get this product or other products like it online on in tanning salons. Tanning salon personnel know all about it because a person cannot tan over these white spots; the fungus has to be killed in order to tan. Trust me I had the fungus and got rid of it by using Wipe Out for most of the summer several years ago. One thing to note is using any antibotic for any length tends to let fungal infections take root. Ringworm is another fungal infection people tend to get while on antibiotics longterm. Trust me I have been on antibiotics galore the past 3 1/2 years fighting a Lyme infection. As far as Doxy goes IMO it is the least likely to kill rheumatic infections unless you just recently acquired the infection and Doxy will discolor your teeth. Doxy will also make you more likely to sunburn. Whereas Minocin is better at tackling the rheumatic diseases because Minocin is confirmed to have antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal properties and since no one 100% knows what the very nature of these rheumatic infections are it makes sense to take Minocin. Minocin is the only thing that I or anyone else I know personally have ever felt better on. Though not all Minocin is created equally. My research on Minocin shows some people turn blue or gray when exposed to sun, others turn an artificial tan. Sunscreen doesn't help and can actually make the reaction worse-- any good pharmacist can tell you this. > > Hmmmm, white freckles.? Guest guest
Hi, thanks for the information that the white spots may be a fungal infection. How do you know this for sure? Can a Dermatologist test these spots and find out for sure? I would love to get rid of them. I will bring this up to the doctor on my next visit and google, " Body Drench Wipeout " . I also am going to print this and bring it in to a dermatologist. I would be so grateful to be able to wear shorts and a bathing suit again this summer. I've gotten used to swimming in the evening. Will let you all know how it turns out after I've brought it up to the doc and let you all know what he says. Thanks again. This is a great site. No matter the question, someone always comes up with an answer. Guest guest
Well I can't say for sure what you have because I haven't seen your skin and I'm not a doctor anyway. But Tinea-Versicolor is an incredibly common skin problem which doctors think is no big deal since it causes no major harm. But if you don't like the splotchy look and do want an even tan or skintone then it is important obviously. I just know what you described sounds like what I had. I had Tinea-versicolor and used the Wipe Out for several weeks and got rid of it on my arms. I'm getting it again though on chest and legs so I probably need to address it again at some point. The Wipe Out lotion works though it did kinda sting the first few applications. Plus its just important to know that antibiotics are not known to cause spotting. Yeah sometimes a weird over all color if you take enough minocin then sit out in the sun long enough. But I just felt you needed to know the spots are probably something else and you shouldn't worry about the abx being the problem. > > > > Hmmmm, white freckles.?
