Guest guest
OH Steph I'm so so sorry you're hurting so bad, but I sure hope that culture shows up something they can treat you for or if it shows nothing then I'd be double PO'd that they've been treating me for yeast when it wasn't that. *sigh* Good luck hon and hang in there. Dee~ PS..... you might try taking an oral antihistamine to get some relief from that pain too hon. It helps ..

Guest guest
My doctor never uses a speculum to get cultures from me. She just sticks the long q-tip think up there. Sherri Hmm. . . that's interesting. If i could work around having to deal with a speculum, i'd be very happy (and in a lot less pain). I did call Genova/ formerly Great Smokies Lab several months ago and asked if i had to use a speculum and they said yes. But, really, as long as the q-tip is sterile i really don't see that there would be any difference between a sample using a speculum and one not using one. Does anyone see any reason i'd have to? After all, it's not as if the sample needs to come from my cervix. Hollis
Guest guest
I go to a vulvar specialist and they have never used a speculum. Maybe because all they deal with are women with vulvodynia. It doesn't hurt and is really quick. They do it that way on my daughter and she is a 16 year old virgin. Maybe a regular gyno does it different.
