Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I hope you all are doing well and not too itchy, swollen, or drugged-up. I just spoke to my allergist on the phone today. I had put myself on the no salicylate diet a little over a month ago, with great success, at the suggestion of several people here. My allergist was very happy to hear that I've been off drugs and had no hives for the last two weeks except for once - the one time I didn't prepare the food. I ate a brownie at a cafe, felt immediately itchy while eating it, so I only ended up eating about 1/3 of it, and had several hives an hour later. He asked me to call the cafe and ask for the recipe, and he would schedule blood tests for tomorrow. (The recipe was margerine, semi sweet chocolate, unsweetened chocolate, sugar, egg, flour, baking powder, and walnuts.) None of these foods are particularly high in salicylates, from what I understand. Perhaps in my low salicylate diet, I have eliminated some other allergen? I have been eating all types of grains (including corn) and beans, celery, cabbage, green beans, shallot, scallions, sesame seeds, garlic, peeled pears, soy sauce, miso, chocolate soy ice cream, and salt with no hives. I kind of doubt he's going to find anything I'm allergic to in that brownie, though he has never tested my blood or skin for allergies before - he seemed to think in CIU, this was useless, though I seem to have somehow managed to get this !@#$% under control with diet, so now he wants to run tests, especially for nut allergies. Another random piece of information: two weeks ago, I was at a wedding, with nothing but celery to eat, so I ate about five brownies there, too. This one was without nuts. I felt very itchy, but didn't get hives that time. However, chocolate soy ice cream doesn't bother me at all. What do you all think about this? Am I just food intolerant? Am I actually allergic to something ? Does salicylate sensitivity make sense with this brownie thing? Best wishes,
