Sue Ann ~ Welcome to the group! Seems to me that as I have lost weight and

gained self-confidence, this is sometimes viewed as being " snooty " :( by

those who are really just jealous. Let's face it.....I do NOT dress as I did

when I weighed 257 lbs. I wear denim shorts and halter tops!!!! :-) And

short skirts!!! :) AND adorable sandals with rhinestones!!! I am MUCH more

daring in my clothing options now!!! Why wouldn't I be????? LOL And I just

love my white capri jeans with studs up the sideseams!! :-) I have also

been thinking that those who can't keep up with changes in us that are

absolutely MOSTLY POSITIVE in us, may need to be " dropped " from our

" relationship " list. Those who didn't " know us when " are NOT going to

" judge " us for who we " are now. " I was wondering if anyone who has gotten a

new job since their weight loss has found this to be true???? Do you feel

more accepted by those you did not know before weight loss for just being

" you " ? Or do you still hear snickers and comments about how you dress/act????

Dawn,

I don't know the answer to this but I am eager to find out!! I am in a hot

and heavy job hunt right now. I am sure the difficult ending with my former

job had a lot to do with my changing so rapidly and not conforming to

everyone's picture of old, safe, dependable Ann! I do look forward to a new

environment where everyone doesn't automatically think it is their business

to know my business.

I do wonder how much to tell new people, who did not know me before, about my

journey. I'm proud of myself and what I have accomplished but I am not sure I

want to start out in a new place being known as a former fat person.

How have others dealt with this?

hugs,

Ann

Ann, I for the first time, told an old acquaintance I have not seen since my

surgery, that I changed my lifestyle and ate more nutrious foods, cut out fat

and sugar and exercise regularly. I really kinda felt like I was lying, but

it really is the truth, isn't it? We were in the middle of dropping off

plants for the plant show at the school and I didn't feel the need to go into

anything further with her. :) I usually bare all!!! LOL

Best of luck on your job search. You got any good leads??

I am in the " Call people up and beg them to talk with you " stage, otherwise

known as networking. It is a very interesting process, and helpful,

especially when you are changing careers but not sure what exact direction

you want to go. I am meeting with 8-10 people a week in various fields,

getting a sense of what they do and what their world is like. Each

conversation turns up more leads and more opportunities to be in touch with

more people. It's a very weird thing to do but I guess this is what it takes

to become known in a new area after 15 years at the same place.

I have to say that I cannot imagine the Ann of a year ago being capable of

doing this. I would not have had the self-confidence or the sense of comfort

with who I am that I have now. I would not have been able to call up perfect

strangers, business leaders in the city, and get them to meet with me. I

would not have been able to inspire them to call others on my behalf, steer

me in right directions, and help me with my career change and job search.

It may be that changing so rapidly through weight loss cost me my former job

.... but it is also helping to create a new life in a totally different

direction.

I'm really excited and so grateful.

Thanks for asking.

hugs,

Ann

Hello again, ! Welcome to the grad list!

Hello

I've been waiting to get to my 1 year anniversary so I could post and

finally Dec 7th was it!! I reached my goal in Sept but had to wait

to be able to post, you have to draw the line some where, I know. My

name is but I post as Ramoth. I am legally going to change my

name but for the mean time this is fine. I started out at 288 pounds

on Dec 7, 1999 and now weigh 125. I'm 5 foot 7 inches so this is

probably the least I'm going to get. I just had a panniculectomy Nov

29th and am healing pretty well from that. I know some of the people

on this list from other lists I belong to but I wanted to introduce

myself and say how happy I am to be able to join you terrific people

as we discuss the problems of being further out.

hugs to all,

Ramoth

, There are plenty of people living with this disease. It affects

people in different ways. Some symptoms are more manageable than others.

I think everyone will agree that exercise is absolutely necessary and it is

important not to assume that every health problem you encounter is related

to the disease.

You have come to the right place, Debbie

Hello

Hi,

I'm new here. My name is and I'm 35 years old. I have two

children who are 6 and 2. My diagnosis is still " pending " I have a

doctor playing the is it MSA or is it PAF game right now. Either way

I'm hoping to find some folks here who understand. Right now I'm very

overwhelmed and scared. I'm reading all I can get my hands on, but it

seems to overwhelm and scare me more!! I'm here because I'm hoping to

hear what life is truly like with MSA...seems all I can find is how

awful it is, how poor the prognosis, etc. I'm hoping to find some

folks " living with " instead of " dieing from " this disease. Have I

come to the right place? Can you stand answering newbie questions

again? Can you offer me some hope or encouragement or " been there's " .

Right now I feel as if I'm drowning in information and I'm only barely

holding on!
