Your points are valid, Terri. I was thinking today when I read the board that so many of the messages actually say "VAL" in the subject line.

I like to give people the benefit of the doubt and think that perhaps some folks who post adrenal/HC questions on the RT3 board (not specifically directed to Val) don't realize they aren't supposed to post to this board. On the other hand, when someone is frightened because they don't know what to do about their adrenal issues, or if they're feeling really sick, it's so hard to wait as long as a week to even ask a question.

I've been in that situation myself. In my case, I received my saliva cortisol results a few days before I was scheduled for surgery, and was surprised to find when I posted my request for help that the Adrenal board was closed for a week, meaning I couldn't get any guidance to help me deal with a possible need for cortisol stress dosing before surgery. I thank God for the folks on this board who stepped in to tell me I needed a stress dose.

I'd like to pose the question to the group - if a member who has RT3 also has adrenal issues, would it not be reasonable to let them pose their questions to the overall group to see if some answers can be found -- without specifically directing the questions to Val? I know that Val is the expert and the moderator, and that some questions really do need her expertise. But, in my opinion, it's really unfair to ask Val to act as the one and only information source for these questions. And, it poses an additional amount of work for her to have to answer every single question. This would also give Val the option to stay away from the board for the entire week and claim her time as her own rather than feeling like her time was been taken from her. (Val, it's not my intention to speak for you. I just can see how much time and work you give.)

What do the folks here think about the idea of the board being more interactive between members rather than relying on one person to do so much work?

I'm not sure why she doesn't close this group, too, for the week, so she can have a real break. Could those of you asking adrenal related questions please avoid making changes on her one week break from that group each month? And try to ask your questions answered before it closes? If we can't make it a week without her, can you imagine not having her help at all? She's given me more help than any doctor I've seen over the past 30 years. I wouldn't have made it this far without her. I spent many years as a semi-invalid, being told all I needed was a good anti-depressant. Often, I was too sick to eat. So much of the little progress I've made in spurts has come from trial and error. She's like the Mikey who tried everything first, and for once I don't have to be the

guinea pig. LOL Where would so many of us be without her? When I see her talk about her recent lack of patience, I'm sad. That lovely woman has the patience of a saint to put up with all of us wanting of her time. Her own health isn't 100%, and she gives too much for little or no compensation. I hope some of you can come up with ideas for how we can help lighten her load. Can't we try to give something back somehow? --Irene

Yes, I think it's a good idea. Mods can always read those responses

and step in if there is extra information that can be given.

The info on the RT3 site was all checked by Val and a lot of questions

can be answered by posting a link to the right page on there.

From an adrenal point of view there are more people answering adrenal

questions on that board than there are here and when a question is

asked here.

Questions about dosing of T3 and the intteraction with HC are fine

here, a question about HC only with no mention of T3 in the question

is in the wrong place.

The summer is my busier time in the evenings and I am having trouble

keeping up with the group

I think it is a very good idea. I think we are all scared (at least I am) to

read, here and in the adrenal group, that Val (and maybe other moderators) is

getting " burn out " . I try to post as little as possible and check offen in the

files, but, of course, sometimes I feel very lost and I just post in desperate

search for help. I do feel guilty for posting, and that is not nice either...

Just as an idea, I found very helpful when people post with links to previous

threads which deal with the same questions. For example when searching about

electrolite information I found posts which ofered links to previos answers by

Val... since many questions are repetitive this may be a good idea sometimes.

I would like to be more helpful and be able to answer mails myself, but I don't

think I have the knowledge and I am concerned about giving people the wrong

advice. However I think is right and members should try to answer more

questions, perhaps digging in previous threads written by more knowledgeable

members.

I think the group being more interactive is a great idea. I know I am not

knowledgeable enough to answer many questions, so I've gone more the route of

looking up posts from Val or Nick that have already answered these questions,

and posting a link to them. And/or posting a link to the page on Nick's website

(or an STTM page) where the question is answered.

There are folks who are just learning to navigate groups and websites, also they

may not be familiar with how to search through older posts, so this link-posting

is often helpful to them. If people are looking for information, this might help

them out.

This is Val's group and I think if other people start answering questions and there was a problem with the answer to whom it was given, Val may be liable? Don't know that for sure but that may be an issue. Nick is here to help her out with her ok. I think we all just need to be more reasonable with questions and HOW MANY questions we ask in a day. Val did ask us to limit them and I think we need to respect that. I know some of the questions on the NTH group are getting to the point where if a nail is falling off, they wonder if it is related to their thyroid....maybe a little extreme example but this type of thing has gone on.We just need to respect her and her time and the time she gives to us.VeniziaSubject: Re: - plus question for the groupTo: RT3_T3 Date: Saturday, April 24, 2010, 8:56 PM

Don't know that for sure but that may be an issue

It is a self help group, none of us are medically qualified.

Talking among yourselves and swapping notes on what worked and what

didn't is very acceptable. If Val or myself see something that

concerns us we will jump in.

If you see interesting papers etc when researching by all means quote

them but also post a link to the source so people can see it in

context.

There is a disclaimer on the RT3 site and on the bottom of posts here,

not perfect but it reminds people that this is self help and not

medically qualified.
