Hi, !

Sorry to hear you are dealing with this at a young age, but perhaps you can

catch it early with the antibiotics! Check our archives and files for info.

I'm sure you'll hear from someone in your area, but just in case you don't,

I seem to remember a recent discussion about a doc in TX.

Blessings!

Terri

Arthritis with antibiotics

Hello Everyone,

I'm new to the group and was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis in

May 2008. As of right now it's relatively mild and only in my hands

but getting worse. I'm 29 years old and in good shape. My current

rheumy has me on plaquenil and after doing reading and research,

primarily through `The New Arthritis Breakthrough' by Henry Scammell,

I'm very interested in trying antibiotic therapy.

I visited my rheumy today and he shot down the whole business and

said he has no experience with antibiotic therapy. He was willing to

give me a script for Minocycline but he is not versed in how to

effectively use it. It was very frustrating to hear him basically

say the whole business is bs and doesn't work.

I am interested in finding a doctor as close to Austin, TX as

possible experienced with this type of therapy for RA. My current

rheumy said he is familiar with the 9 other rheumys in Austin and

none of them believe in this therapy.

I was hoping someone in this group might know of a list of doctors

that are experienced in this or better yet, someone who lives in

Austin or Houston that has a doctor they are currently using you

could refer me to.

Thanks in advance!

Hi ,

I have a doctor in Lufkin if you interested in traveling a bit, but that is as

far as I know. I have a address list for some other doctors in Dallas or

Humble/Houston area, but I have to find them in my large list of kept e-mails.

Let me see what I can find and I will e-mail you the info when I find it.

Hi ,  It is frustrating to all of us when a Rheumatologist is not open

minded enough

to at least listen to the patient.  I have found out thru experience, that the

last person we should ask for antibiotics is the Rheumatologist.  Get a copy of

the " Most frequently asked question re: the antibiotic therapy " and find a

regular internal doc, family doc or open minded doc and give them a copy.  Tell

them you insist on trying this protocol and would they please give you a

prescription for Minocin.  They usually do. Leave the copy with them to read.

They probably won't read it.  But ask for a 3 months suppy with refills.  When

they see that you start getting better, they will be surprised. It is up to us

to educate our doctors.  Like one of my doctors said, " We learn from our

patients! " ----Good luck  Dolores
