Do most of you take your T3 at bedtime or do you find that it keeps you awake?

I have major sleep issues and take 5 mg HC at night so I wasn't sure if it's a

good idea to take T3 at night too or to try and take all my T3 in the morning

and afternoon.

Thanks!

I take mine at night and I sleep like a rock. Sleep has improved since being on T3only b/c I sleep solid and wake rested. Nick has always said to take it just before you turn off the light -- otherwise, it could keep you awake.

I hope this helps.

Hi ,

I'd been afraid to take T3 at bedtime, too. But I tried it and it actually seems to help. I take it and my bedtime dose of HC at the same time, sort of--I take the T3 sublingually, and the HC with a snack to ward off nighttime hypoglycemia.

Hmmm...okay, well then I guess adrenals still aren't stable yet because I took

it at bedtime with my HC and I was awake (yet again) all night.

On that note, I recently tried to increase my T3 and I was wondering if it takes

a few days for my adrenals to settle down. In the past, I've found that thyroid

adjustments take about three days for my adrenals/body to get used to. So if I

get increased sleep problems after increasing T3 dosage, does his mean I should

back off on the T3 or wait a few days to see if my adrenals settle?

Thanks for your responses!

Okay, I just checked my bp and lying down it was 113/70 with a pulse of 85 and

standing up it was 112/70 with a pulse of 100. This was about 15 mins. after

drinking sea salt though. So I don't know if that makes a difference but it

appears that I probably need to decrease Cytomel? Yesterday my temp averaged

98.77 and the day before it was 98.53. Not sure what all of this means. Val

any thoughts?

If T3 had kept me awake, I'd have stopped taking it at bedtime. I don't know if that's the right or wrong way to do it. For me, taking T3 at bedtime was an experiment. It worked, so I've continued to do it. Being awake all night--once would be enough to make me stop dosing T3 at bedtime. I just couldn't handle that.

Peggy, I guess I'm just a glutton for punishment. No more T3 at bedtime for me

and I'm reducing T3 today! Can't afford to lose another nights sleep with two

little ones to take care of.

Oh my gosh, don't let what happened to me happen to you. On Friday night I took my T3 just when I was ready to fall sleep but I couldn't fall to sleep so I ended staying up all night long. I was very hyper in terms of being overly tired and lacking sleep the next morning. I went out for breakfast with my husband and drank two cups of coffee. I came home and was so wired I wanted to go shopping lol. On the way to the store I had a fainting episode that scared my husband so much he persuaded me I needed to go to the ER. So, they ended up admitting me on the grounds that my ekg had some abnormalities but put me under a Stroke protocol. I didn't have a stroke, the cat san showed that but they insisted on keeping me. This turned into a three day nightmare of a MRI, xrays, blood, testing my carotid artery and I was able to finally leave on Monday with everything being fine. Darn, I learned a valuable lesson. For some of us that have trouble falling asleep taking T3 will only keep us up more. I can't take it right as I am nodding off because it makes me wake up.Another thing, nobody knew anything about Cytomel. They had no idea what it was and when my thyroid tests came back suppressed I was able to explain the reason behind it to the neurologist and she actually understood. The entire time I dosed myself because they wanted to give me 75 of T3 all at one time instead of spacing it out.

Yeah and I'm not going to take my T3 at bedtime anymore. I never had this problem up until just a few weeks ago when I've been having problems sleeping. Not getting right to sleep ends up being a nightmare. I wonder if other people are having this issue with sleep?

Sounds like quite an ordeal you went through!

In the past, I've found that thyroid adjustments take about three days for my adrenals/body to get used to. So if I get increased sleep problems after increasing T3 dosage, does his mean I should back off on the T3 or wait a few days to see if my adrenals settle?

The ONLY reason fo rthis kind of reaction is WEAK ADRENALS. 90% of

people that take T3 at nigh helps them sleep and feel better in the AM.

In healthy peop;le TSH peaks at nidnight giving us the highest thyroid

levels of the day about 2 AM. In people woith weak adrenals, the low

glucose time of day is also 2AM. Can we say hypoglycemia? And no it

won;t show up on lanbs that a dumb ER will do as by the time you get

ther eyour glucose wil be HIGH from adrenaline. Adrenaline that causes

the racing palps and FEAR feelings. PLEASE do nto say this si for all of

us taking T3. It si NOT. I can take 50mcg AT bedtime and sleep liek a

rock, but then I have high AM cortiosl. You need to get cortisol saliva

testing done ASAP if you are to continue on T3 treatment.
