Guest guest
Sally, I just had a hip replacement and I did it the hard way. I fell because I was to weak around the hip area and I hit the concrete floor, which also jamed the leg into the hip and I had a weight hanging from my leg for three days to straighten my leg before I had surgery. The pain is severe,It is so much more painful to fall and break your hip then just going ahead and doing it before you fall and break it. I went to a rehab for about two weeks and they worked me hard, and I have a great family that when I got back home I have had a lot of help and the therapists have come to my home. Now I am walking more upright then before and I think it helped having the surgery. Don't put it off. I am speaking from experience. One good thing is they gave my antibiotic IV in the hosital and it has helped my Dermatomyositis a lot. Since you are on the antibiotic protocol it my help. I stayed on my regime taking Minocin MWF and Biaxin TuThSa. They thought I was nuts but I told them this is the only way I can take my meds. The same with the supplements. The Rehab was even better. I took all my own meds and supplements to them and they divided it up for every day and when I had to take it. So my medicin cost was very minimal, only pain medication. Sorry this got so long but I think I wanted to see the other side. (4yrs pretty severe RA) Blood work was good. SED rate was 61 (0-30 scale) This shocked me because I've had much less SED rate, and more pain. Could this be from AP (now on my 8th week doing 200mg MWF) added 4.5 LDN about 4 weeks ago? My most concern, and great disappointment, was hip xray showed severe degeneration and a hip replacement was recommended. With all else going on with me, I'm not in physical condition to think of a replacement at this time. In the meantime, I'll have home PT come to help strengthen muscles around hip. Who has gone through this, and any other alternative besides hip replacement? Thank you so much for your help and feedback. Sally rheumatic Re: Thrush In case it's helpful to anyone, using the prescription my doctor wrote (which provided plenty of refills), I took one tablet of 150mg fluconazole daily for 8 days to cure thrush. The day after I stopped I didn't notice any problems, but the next day I felt it returning, and the next day after that (today), it's obviously coming back and pretty rapidly. Talked to my doc and I'm going to take it daily for another 1 week and possibly 2. I'm thinking that if taking fluconazole only with a pretty severe case of thrush, taking it for " at least 2 weeks " as the Mayo website listed is what it's going to require, at least in my case. Next time I'll ask about Amoxil and definitely ask him to include the Nilstat/nystatin drops -- those sound heavenly right about now! I originally decided to take a break from my Minocin for a week while I got rid of this, but now wondering if it really matters and would hate to have my RA symptoms worsten in the meantime. Any input on that would be great. Thanks again to all of you out there who help so many! Shelle
Guest guest
Sally, make sure if you have the surgery to get off the LDN a couple of days before. I am still not back since this is only my second day not taking pain medication. (surgery was 7 weeks ago). I had a hard time the first day because I still had some LDN in my system and the pain medication didn't work. You can stay on the antibiotics. I went through physical therapy but it did not help. Guest guest
Sally, if you live alone let your case worker at the hospital know when you have the surgery and they will keep you a little longer at rehab and then also have a visiting nurse come to help you. My daughter has Medicaid and they actually let someone come to her home for several months until she was able to walk again after she broke her femure and required two surgeries.
