Congratulations! I am hearing about more and more people lately who have been

on A/P going into remission. Some swear it has to be only Minocin, some say

only Minocycline. I say, whatever works, is wonderful I achieved remission

also after 18 months on A/P! I think this is exciting. Good Job! Dolores

rheumatic Generic Mino

I went to the pharmacy yesterday and they told me that mino was no

longer available except in the Generic form. I asked if it was no

longer available for them or for anyone and they said no longer

available anywhere. Has anyone else heard this? Will the Generic

(which is much cheaper) help me?

Ethel and Geoff,

Thanks, as always, for the timely advice. You are true heroes for

your dedication to the true facts and details. Just the other day I

was asked by a friend where one could fine the brand name Minocin,

and voila -- you provided the source. Thank you!

Yes, the term " the generics " can vary from one day to the next, and

from one brand to the next on a continual basis. It is known that

their efficacity changes frequently and they are not always

reliable, from one batch to the next. It's difficult to impossible

to try and report on the efficacity from one batch to the next.

Thanks again for the timely information!

~Connie

The only information I can find is by word of mouth from a friend of mine who

says :

It seems Teva and generic minocycline always comes up tope & gets the

thumbs up here from people I know who use mino in the US. Anyone taking it will

just have to check around different pharmacies to see if they supply these -

some do, some don't - but some will also order in certain ones, if requested.

Ranbaxy (made in India) is a definite no-no...had FDA warnings of producing

inferior generics that were not up to regulation standards.

Brand Wyeth Minocin here in the US (the pelleted variety distributed thru Triax)

is not usually covered by most insurances (waaaaayyy too expensive), so people

will often buy the brand from http://www.buylowdrugs.com/rx-drugs/Minocin.php an

online pharmacy in Canada. It's $165.00 for a hundred count and, if she orders

these online, she should write " 100mg caps Stiefel brand Minocin (pelleted caps

only) " in the medication line of the order form just like that so they don't

send the powered brand version instead, both of which come in the same two-toned

orange/indigo capsule. Takes 2 to 3 weeks from placing faxed order for the

Minocin to arrive from Canada, so need to stay on top of re-ordering in advance,

so you don't run out.

Like Triax in the US, Stiefel in Canada also got distribution rights from Wyeth,

so it's exactly the same formulation as the Minocin in the US (which is in a pea

green-coloured capsule with one transluscent end).

I hope this helps you decide which one to take ?
