Guest guest
hi I am new to this forum and its sister groups. I posted to the main Thyroid Group and they suggested that I put the Rt3 test results here for some input. My wife (aged 56) was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis in 2006. When her health continued to decline despite conventional treatment – looked and I found details of the Thyroid connection. But not this site until this month. She is now in a very bad state – In a lot of pain, very very tired, spends most of her time in bed, is Mentally disturbed, paroniod and suicidal – and has no interest in life. She does not believe in the thyroid link – so progress is difficult – and I need to make progress to motivate her. We live in the Kent, GB 18/6/09 Private Tests – was on Statins at this point because of the high Cholesterol – this made her feel worse and she stopped it after only a short time. Total T4 98.7 - Range 58 – 154 TSH 1.59 Range - 0.4 – 4 Free T4 15.3 – Range 10 - 22 Free T3 3.71 – range 2.8 – 6.5 Free T4:Free T3 ratio 4.12 - range 3- 5 thyrogolbulin <20 range 0 - 40 peroxidase <10 range 0 – 35 Reverse T3 0.45 range 0.14 – 0.54 – Due to a misunderstanding the Reverse T3 was not done at the same time as the other tests but on 2/7/09and there was no comparative tests done with the RT3!! The private test results seemed to indicate a RT3 dominance – having explained my thoughts our GP prescribed a one month course of synthetic T3. Started at 20 microgrames a day working up to 80 microgrames a day for 10 days and then back down again I think I now realise this may not have been high enough.. seemed to have more energy and alertness during the T3 course – but nothing exceptional – although she said that she did not feel an improvement during the treatment – she did complain that it made her problems worse when it stopped!! Which may have meant that it had more effect than she thought. At the time I did not realise the full significance of Adreanal support - and perhaps this may have made a difference. 03/9/09 Private Tests Total T4 81.3 - Range 58 – 154 TSH 3.06 Range - 0.4 – 4 Free T4 11.5 – Range 10 - 22 Free T3 5.15 – range 2.8 – 6.5 Reverse T3 0.32 range 0.14 – 0.54 Free T4:Free T3 ratio 2.23 - range 3- 5 thyrogolbulin <20 range 0 - 40 peroxidase 10.4 range 0 – 35 Progesterone 27.8 Typical ranges – Luteal phase 100 – 400 – Post Menopause 20 - 70 Oestradiol 6.9 Typical ranges – Luteal phase 4 –7 – Post Menopause 1 - 4 Ratio Progesterone: Oestradiol 4 - range 10 – 100 These later tests looked odd. With the increased T3 and lower T4. Further reasurch seemed to suggest that possibly it was the Oestrogen dominance that was interfering with the action of the Thyroid hormones. At this stage I had heard about a Thyroid specialist at the local hospital who was recommended as having an open mind. So I asked for a referral. He initially said that he was prepared to consider Progesterone and/or T4 supplementation. Over the next few visits he did his own tests – which he has been reluctant to pass on – I have asked for copies and I am waiting for a reply. After his tests he considered that is "Undoubtedly Menopausal" and required HRT – which she started – and it has only made 's condition significantly worse. I want her to stop the HRT but she is adamant that she finishes the course. The specialist also noted that "her free T3 is at the lower end of the normal range but given her normal TSH I remain dubious that she has a thyroid abnormality". Having written a letter to the Specialist saying I was not happy - he has taken off the HRT - and put her on low dose T4 and T3, only just started taking it. He is sceptical about the Adrenal fatigue and RT3 - He thinks her Cortisol is OK - from 1 mid day test! he has turned down the request for HC support. I have got to take 1/2 tea spoon of Sea Salt a day. I am also thinking about some Adrenal glandular s. Regards
Guest guest
Hello , so sorry to hear about your wife It is so hard to deal with these things. You are a wonderful husband to help her this way! Have you done the 4x saliva cortisol test? http://www.canaryclub.org/diurnal-cortisol-4x-zrt.html For the T3 treatment to work I am pretty certain you have to be on the higher dose for at least 12 weeks. Have you read the faq? http://thyroid-rt3.com/ Kitty To: RT3_T3 Sent: Sun, April 11, 2010 4:51:50 PMSubject: Re:Nick--question re dosing schedule hi I am new to this forum and its sister groups.
